Verticillium? (Picture)
    #1400310 - 03/22/03 11:07 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

A user emailed me this picture, asking me what would cause these brown little speckles to appear... The white fluffy mycelium which usually grows up the stems receeded around the spots appeared as you can see in the picture.

Im not sure what this is, but, the user said to me that he had noticed this happen in a certain area of the casing, and some mushrooms ceased to keep growing.

Any help would be appreciated, and will be forwarded to the user who would like to remain anonymous.

what was it cased with? I've only noticed this happening since I started using coir, though the connection may be spurious...
incidentally, fruits with this affliction were eaten dried with no ill effects, maybe not such a good idea to eat them fresh though...

Cased with coir and vermeculite.

You know, this person said that he has seen this happen about a year ago in one casing with straight coir as well. Dried specimens were ingested with no ill effects as well.

All specimens aborted, but only at a very late age.... specimens were reported to be about 6" in height, and misteriously would abort.

The dragons are doing the same thing. He doesnt know what the problem is, he couldnt tell if it was contamination or not, but he has some strange deformities to tell you about. The shrooms have grown out but where they meet the cake, no body persay exists, but a small tiny almost root holding the fruit body to the cake. Its like a bone but no meat. He will upload maybe in a bit here, some of the aborts get really fat but have these brown streaks and are super water logged. some specimens were dried thoroughly and injested last night. The dragon didnt feel anything wrong. quite powerful did the dragon comment.
