Found more cool things then I expected yesterday, so I thought I'd share the pics.
Follow the links for the corresponding MO observation and bigger pics.
Amanita velosa

Amanita calyptroderma

Deconica Found growing under an oak in duff/grass, quite possibly there was wood debris in there too, but I am not sure. The spore print was purple/brown.

Next to Boletus edulis, Amanita velosa is my favorite mushroom as far as taste.
I used to find them in the hills on the Central coast.
I have never found Amanita calyptroderma.
Nice finds Byrain.

Thanks and seeing as I've been told that these specimens are safe to eat and everything I have read and seen only confirms that, I shall update later.

Thanks and Deconica physaloides is synonymous with Deconica montana? Seems that way from looking on Mushroom observer. And if it wasn't for the habitat, I would think these are the same (Macroscopically at least) to the D. crobula I found recently.

Good finds Byrain! Nice photos as well.
I love the velosa... I've yet to find a good specimen this year. Just a few dry/small ones. This next week should fix that I'm assuming

Thanks.
And I ate both of the Amanitas, I fried up the calyptroderma last night with pepper, salt, and garlic and ate it with some bread, it tasted excellent and was reminiscent of good fish. As for the velosa, I tried that this morning two different ways. One method as described by Alan here and I fried some up like the calyptroderma last night, both methods were excellent with a delicate caramelizing taste and produced different results.

In my area, mostly just summer and a blend of fall/winter/spring, the winter part is quite mild usually.
