Shotgun FC ?? producing small skinny fruits
    #14002968 - 02/21/11 06:00 PM (13 years, 11 days ago)

So i built a shotgun as you can see there are many holes i used a 1/4 inch bit. There are probably around 50 holes on each side still open, top and bottom. I had to cover up some of the holes with tyvek tape because it wouldn't keep proper humidity. Now it keeps proper humidity.

As you can see in the pictures it is only producing skinny fruits. Its on a 12/12 light cycle and the ceiling fan is set on high all day. And even though it is an SGFC i still fan it a couple times a day. I have been experimenting with this to see if it could be the genetics of the spores i used(from Ralphster)Brazilians). im beginning to think thats exactly what it is. To test this I have several large cakes in a martha with a cool mist running 24/7, i also have a monotub going and two SGFC one with the cake seen in picture and one that i cased. Every single one has produced small skinny fruits besides the one in the martha on the second flush produce a couple big guys.

So do you guys think that is just simply genetics or could i some how not be getting the humidity or FAE right. I dont think it is humidity as most fruits have the fuzzy feet. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

Oh ps all started from spore solution into WBS jars then spawned to Damion 50/50 tek coir and verm.

I'm having a similar problem with my BRF cakes. I got a couple which were 5-7g wet but everything else has been midget-sized :frown:.

Insufficient fresh air exchange.  That's what is causing the long stems.  How far from the light is it?  They also show signs of insufficient lighting.

How thick is the substrate?

Just the man i been waiting to hear from. Well i just use the ceiling light and fan. So its a good distance from them the sub depth is around 3 and 1/2 inches to 4 in the SGFC and 4-5 inches in the martha and monotub.

Do you really think it could be not enough FAE?? I man this fan is really moving some air around and also have a fan near my martha and the cool mist is always running..

If you are running a ceiling fan that might be why it wouldn't keep proper humidity. My SGFC only drops below 95% humidity when I fan and mist.

Get the light within inches and it needs to be fluorescent or LED, not an incandescent light bulb.  Often, the effects of low lighting mimic insufficient air exchange, so fix the light problem first.  Mushrooms grown with proper lighting will be three to four times heavier than without.
