President Obama meets with Silicon Valley Leaders

Obama met with 12 tech titans this weekend at a dinner hosted by venture capitalists John and Ann Doerr. The guestlist included Steve Jobs (Apple), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Eric Schmidt (Google), Art Levinson (Genentech), John Chambers (Cisco), Reed Hastings (Netflix), Carol Bartz (Yahoo), Dick Costolo (Twitter), John Hennessy (Standford University), Larry Ellison (Oracle) and Valerie Jarrett (Obama aide). "Participants chewed on a range of topics, including education, work-force development, H-1B work visas and the elimination of the tax companies must pay to bring overseas cash holdings to the United States." The president subsequently visited an Intel production facility in Oregon, where Intel CEO Paul Otellini announced plans to spend $16 billion in new or updated manufacturing plants, and specific plans to build a $5 billion microprocessor plant in Arizona and to hire an additional 4,000 US employees.
I think this is a very smart move on the President's part. Several of these companies are experiencing exceptionally high growth and in order for the United States to maintain a leadership position in the global economy (not to mention attempting to jump start a bleak job market), we need to find out what these companies want in order to commit to conducting the majority of their business here in the US. It is clear that the corporate tax rate will be a major factor in their decision; do you have any ideas what other measures the President's office may pursue to help encourage local investment and hiring? Do you support our President sitting down to a private power dinner with corporate leaders like this?

well its better than him drinking on the job.
one thing that he is overlooking thought is most of those companies hire skilled people or people going to school for the it comunity.
I think it would be more benefitial for them to have an intership progam for the unemployed to learn those skills and computers in general for a decent job.

The types of jobs that most of these companies have available require advanced degrees in science and engineering. You can't teach six years of college via an internship program.

Obama stands firmly that the fiscal inbalance for this term would not exceed 500 billion.
Just recently obama has stated that he needs to utilize and further indebt the country 1.3 trillion instead of the 500 billion he promised.

4000 jobs?

See, how many other places buy our crap?
Our material goods have small markets. Asian countries make lots of good electronics, so they don't need to buy from us.
We need to shift our focus from bullshit life-style enhancers to real utilizeable goods.
These are not complete thoughts.
But the shite america produces really is just that - shit.
