What happened to the days when...
    #14002828 - 02/21/11 05:30 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Getting intoxicated was not only condoned, but welcomed as an important part of daily life? Like when the Mesopotamians harvested opium poppies, and the South Americans looked upon mushrooms as a sacrament.

I don't understand why today's world is so afraid of things like this. Why did it even start going downhill in the first place?

Probably chemistry too. As much good as it does, it introduced some pretty crazy drugs.

It still is, it's just different intoxications. Alcohol, benzos, and pharmaceutical opiates have become the norm.

I doubt mushrooms were ever considered an important part of everyday life to South Americans. I imagine they were part of a ritual for certain occasions. It is cool though that they were intedgrated into the cultural norm, not viewed as some fringe thing (well, I can really only speculate). Ayahausca is still revered is some parts.
