Again, not trying to downplay the seriousness of opiate withdrawal, but I would ask that you look on the bright side: if you had been abusing speed or drinking a fifth of hard liquor every day for two years instead of using opiates, you would be in much worse shape right now.

Alcohol and other GABA drugs you are correct carry a worse withdrawal but I disagree 100% about amphetamines being worse withdrawal. Speed will fuck up your brain alot worse than opiates but the acute withdrawal period is IMO gonna be nowhere near as miserable as opiate withdrawal. You said it yourself you've never felt it before so theres realy no way of knowing the true misery of it until you go through it just like I never knew until it happened to me.

Never gone through opiate withdrawal but speed withdrawal (for me) was really just a lot of sleeping... Without getting into the neurotoxicity of it or anything.

Fair enough, but I also think that after a few years of being wasted or using speed, going cold-turkey is easier but the long-term effects on your health are much worse. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but there are definitely advantages and disadvantages for both.

Exactly thats why I would call it nowhere near the same because opiate withdrawal you dont sleep at all like not even a minute for the first week and you barely sleep a couple hours a night if that for weeks/months after that. You just ache down down to the bone everywhere and the restlessness/restless legs are enough to make you want to put a bullet in your brain. Then you got the crippling anxiety and exhaustion/ depression and add on to that the sleep deprivation and you have about the worst feeling you could ever imagine, not to mention having to run to the bathroom every other minute.

Alcohol addiction and opiate addiction are not the same it takes much longer to get physcialy dependant on alcohol using it everyday then it does opiates. I was addicted to opiates for 2 years and have been on suboxone for the last 7 months and believe me it didnt take very long to become a full blown addict who had to use just to not get sick. Opiate withdrawals are nothing like a hangover from alcohol so I dont know what you are trying to say.
I think he's saying that he drinks enough that his hangovers are almost mild wd's, as his body has become so accustomed to having ethanol in it. I can kinda relate.
Real DT's are scary shit. I'm glad I never got to that, but I do have a friend that needs to drink daily. When he doesn't he gets the shakes really bad, and that's a good sign he good go into full blown Delerium Trmens

Yeah, most people talk about hangovers as being a really bad headache with some nausea and photosensitivity, but for me a hangover means tremors, uncomfortable overstimulation, and anxiety that can get close to panic when it's really bad. Depending on the circumstances I usually will kill this with more booze, though it's a fairly simple matter to stop after the maintenance-therapy dose of one or two beers in the evening - that is, if I've got thangs to do.
Without thangs to do I'd pretty much just be shitfaced 24/7.

Yeah if your hangover is killed by more booze than thats not a hangover thats a sign of physical dependance. That whole saying about having a beer in the morning after a night of drinking to kill a hangover will not work for a true hangover it only works for people who are dependant.

It definitely is dependency, but I don't consider it "full-blown" because like I said, I don't actually drink on most days. It's just that when I do get properly trashed, the after-effects take maintenance. I generally plan around that these days and wait until weekends to drink heavily.
A hangover is a combination of two things, alcohol withdrawal and dehydration, and most people who drink heavy at all will eventually experience the blunt side of the withdrawal aspect IMO.

Oh yeah that too. This is why I never drink cheap liquors anymore, they're full of brutal biproducts. I made this decision several years ago, after I had one of the worst hangovers ever from a single 40-ouncer of Olde English.
I'll admit I'm an alcoholic, but alcoholism is something you can do right.
