I would leave it covered for 24-48 hours more, then it should be.. it looks a lil thin on the top, which means the middle may not be all the way done..

give it 24-48 hours covered, then case, do a casing run for a couple of days, then fruit.. giggity

no.. but it helps alot, depending on your FC..

i really suggest it.. straight vermiculite is a cheap, effective casing layer.. very easy to use

you case them, then cover them for a few days.. when you see mycelium poking through (not overtaking) the casing layer, THEN introduce fruiting conditions..

this is a casing run.. its a good thing.. lol

actually

this is a great "must read" for people new to casings.. lots of info in here..

i'd just want to say that i myself had pretty poor results with just vermiculite as a casing layer. Been told that it just doesn't create the right micro climate on its own. And my results seemed to back it up.

edit:

here is the outing when i had the small discussion with RR way back

i still ponder why it is classified as 'the worst possible casing'

Because plain verm does not have the structure or the beneficial organisms to be an ideal casing material.  Verm mixed with peat does have the structure and beneficial organisms to be an ideal casing layer.  Search posts here for plain verm casings, and for every one you find with an even pinset, you'll find ten growers with plain verm casing layers asking why they only have pins around the edges.
