cups instead of jars

does it make a difference if i use glass cups to grow mushrooms in rather than jars, the only jars i have are 60ml and they're a bit too small, and i'm a bit low on money to buy any more jars right now. if i shouldnt use glass cups should i just go ahead and use the 60ml jars i have? i've never grown mushrooms before so would it be easier, harder to grow them in the small jars?

If you have no other choice, you can use drinking glasses so you can slide the cake out of it in one piece once it's colonized. Use foil to cover the glass.

I would do the same thing but he said that he has no money. And don't say that it's not possible or more difficult because it's not true If your sterile procedures are correct, drinking glasses will do the job.

if you can't swing the 10 bucks wait until you have the money to get the stuff to do it right. if you don't do it right chances of failure increase, and then money is wasted.

well that is a very impressive fruit. i can see that it is out of a mono tub with a ton of substrate, that fruit did not grow from the jar, the jar was place over the fruit as it grew.

I used jars with just foil and no lid, the only difference is that a jar has threads to secure the foil to better. If you don't handle them too much and get the foil on there good and follow sterile procedures I think it should work fine.

hmm well i could try doing it with glasses then but i was thinking of cleaning out jam jars or something but the only problem i'd have with that, would be that most of the jar openings are smaller than the jar it self and would be harder to get the cakes out wouldnt it?

If that is the case then using glasses would be better, don't handle them, just put them on a shelf forget about them for a couple weeks and make sure u get both layers of the foil as tight as you can before you pasteurize them so they don't get water logged.

i've seen several people use plain drinking glasses with a foil lid, and have had great success...just use the foil as a lid, and use a rubberband to hold it down tight, then cover with another peice of foil to PC, remove top layer of foil, shoot up your jars, and as long as you have dry verm barrier you'll be fine.

PS you can use a rubber band or garbage ties to hold the foil tight while you steam or pressure cook them to keep excess moisture out too. And take into account how big your glasses are, if they are bigger than half pint then you might have to use a little extra tap on the syringe and I ain't talking a whole cc extra per glass. If they are smaller than half pint you will have to be careful to not put too much noc into em. Go here and read and watch the video, they do the PF-TEK with glasses here... http://www.fungifun.org/English/Pftek
LOL thats not the first time you have beaten me to a tip biologys
