I'd call them a Pholiota sp., I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure they're not Gymnopillus. Anyway, they are too young to tell.
EDIT: OMG you ate unidentified mushrooms in hopes to "trip balls"??!? Next time look for pretty green ones with a volva, they are awesome.

Were they bitter as hell? I bet they were. Hypholoma fasciculare is also an option, besides pholiota. Don't munch anything you don't know what it is, mkay?

Well, that's natural selection at work. My only problem with those people is that the mushrooms will be blamed for their stupidity. But have you noticed, in the last week or two, not a single day passes without someone eating or suggests eating unknown mushrooms to trip bawlzz.

Well were just trying to inform you on your poor decision and hopefully you wont try it again.. you got lucky.
You do know even if you half way ID them if your not 100% on the ID u have a high risk of eating enough of a poisonous mushroom to cause you to die or at least a horrible trip the hospital which will cause you tons of pain...
There are tons of deadly look a likes that resemble other mushrooms if you just halfway ID them. Theres also mushrooms that aren't even labeled in field guides that are deadly. Always be 100%..

That's not something of the last weeks. It's been like this for about as long as I can remember.

Where I come from, there's a saying: 'weeds never perish'. Does it have an equivalent in English? I rather like it.

A couple shroomerites a week eat unidentified mushrooms and no one has died yet. It is extremely rare that the people who eat unidentified mushrooms get sick. I don't even remember the last time it happened.
Perhaps it is not as dangerous as most people think.

Flaming is not allowed in the hunting forum.
If you want to tell people to never eat unidentified mushrooms that is a good idea, but please do it in a respectful way.
OP's mushrooms are too young to identify. Pholiota seems more likely to me than Gymnopilus.
OP, please post some pictures of some more mature specimens. Do not eat anything you find in the wild until you make a spore print and get the OK from someone experienced.

Improbable that death will occur from eating unidentified shrooms but nonetheless, possible. There are deadly ones out there with amatoxins that will cause a slow and painful death so best not take the risk, comprende?
The Shroomery is a great tool for quick identification from knowledgeable folks, why take any risk when your mind can be put at ease so quickly and easily?
