The skeptics approach.
    #13999820 - 02/21/11 07:38 AM (13 years, 12 days ago)

How does one explain his or her own reality while being skeptical about what one believes?

Does one not even try to explain?

I can see how one being skeptical of others thoughts by simply denying any thought provoking ideas.

Does one not give into any ideology about religion? God? The universe?

If one does NOT question unsubstantiated ideas, then the only alternative is to take 'the gullible idiot's approach'.

You have to make a careful distinction between skepticism and denial.

Skepticism implies doubt.
Denial implies rejection.

Denial and skepticism can't really go together.

I like to think while you may not get any answers, but at least you tried.

Which form of skepticism are you referring to?

Here's something from notes in class last year...
Quote:

1. Skepticism as a thesis
- Nothing can be known.
. . . different from relativism
-Note “Skeptic’s circle”

2. Skepticism as a recommendation
-Skepticism is an imperative to suspend judgment.
-The follower of a skeptical recommendation suspends judgment about
everything, including a skeptical thesis.

3. Skepticism as a method
-Skepticism is a question or inquiry that leads to doubt.
-Skeptical methods produce a state of uncertainty by appearing either
to affirm nothing, or to affirm what they concurrently deny.
-Note Socratic midwifery

Someone who's skeptical may be critical.

On a side note: it is very important to note the difference between being cynical and being critical.
