Spawning to bulk question

SWIM shredded a BRF cake and spawned it to coir/Cpoo/verm mixed at about a 40/40/20 at 1 part spawn to 3 parts substrate. How does he know when the substrate is fully colonized and ready to birth?

It'll be fully colonized.

The same way you knew the cake was fully colonized - it will be completely white with mycelium. After which you should allow it to consolidate for another few days to a week for best results.
Also, for future reference, cakes will almost always perform better as cakes. If you want to spawn to bulk, use grains.

yup.. it will look like you would think it looks..
oh yeah.. before i had a PC, I used to do the following, and it worked GREAT!
get a few BRF jars, boil, noc up, colonize.. (yes.. i said boil.. i had no pc, remember? lol.. any port in a storm.. but DO get a PC)
prep my bulk sub.
use a CLEAN CHEESE GRATER
grate the cake into the sub..
it makes a SHIT LOAD of spawn from a small cake..
grain is better, but that worked in a pinch..
just food for thought

RogerRabbit said: The major pinning triggers are in order of importance, full colonization, a decrease in CO2 levels due to increased air exchange(not gas exchange which is minimal), a steady rate of evaporation from the substrate or casing layer, and lastly, light.
i had trays that i thought were 100%
so i was eager to put in "fruiting conditions"
i took off the tinfoil lid, set under a light, fan and misted
and some of these trays contaminated
so when i tossed em out i took a look at the cross section and i saw that its wasnt 100% colonized. it looked 100% from the outside but the inside still had some work left to do.
IT looked like a layer cake lol
so after reading RRs research i decided that by waiting for pinning while in the incubation, high co2 stage, i would ensure that the substrate was indeed 100% colonized before putting into "fruiting conditions"
the way i did it before the cake would still sit there for a couple weeks anyway before I saw any pins and it takes a bit of work to "initiate" pinning by misting/fanning etc
now i set it and forget it, then open it up when i see a bunch of pins then its just a few more days until harvest
