wild boars/pigs in my Morel patches :(

Good day everyone!
since the weather here in Alabama has been nice for the past several days i decided to go for a hike around my usual morel spots.
much to my dismay once i got to the first tree i found them at last year i noticed that either a wild boar or pig has torn the bottom 1-2 feet of bark off of the base of the tree.
after hiking around to the other 4 spots i found them last year i found that each tree at every spot has damage from boars.
i know this cannot be good for the trees and they are probably going to die soon.
the ground around the trees was heavily disturbed, i assume the boars were digging around either for bugs or to eat the actual mycelium of the morels.
basically i am wondering if anyone else has come across this before?
do you think the morels at these spots even have a chance to fruit this year?
hopefully they will, but it seems i am going to have to find new hunting grounds...

I've experienced stepping in boar shit while foraging but never had them eat my mushrooms!
I'm on the Tennessee river, you must be much further south, as all I've seen since the warm spell are sulphur tufts.
However I may go look for morels on green mountain in Hville next week. Do you notice any particular microclimates morels enjoy? It seems chanterelles like anywhere with their host trees.

i wasn't expecting to find any, still about three or four weeks to soon around here. but if this warm weather keeps up may be sooner.
i usually find them around hickory trees where wet weather streams meet the river.
the boars in this area are getting out of hand quickly.

You should carry a gun with you, and shoot those hogs, they may attack you if they see you, lil FYI and it will save your morel's

If it is on Public land call the county and tell them about the wild hogs population getting out of hand. I did this and a couple months later they opened it up for hunting and trapping. You can't just go kill wild hogs for the morels, lol.

well in some states you can. i know in Texas wild hogs are a none-game animal, so you don't even need a hunting license, you can just shoot them.

Dunno if you should worry about getting attacked by any boars; unless people feed them, which I suppose is unlikely where you live; around here it happens a lot. But yeah, your morel patch is probably not going to fruit as prolifically as it might have if it wasn't disturbed. I'm not too pessimistic for future years though. Sometimes a good shake&stir promotes growth. But only time will tell. Keep a look out for new spots this year.

Dont fool your self Boars will attack you- If its a male boar, or a female boar protecting their, lil pigs. At least take a big stick and a knife. But I wouldnt go out there with out some protection. You are more likely to get attacked by a boar b4 ANY THING ELSE in the woods. Bears, wolves, big cats, etc. Boars can/will kill- Even Big Attack dogs like pittbulls etc. One on one no match even 3 on one is kinda sketchy, thats how much power a Boar has.
