Thanks for all the helpful posts everyone. I couldn't have done this armed only with my copy of GGMM. I look forward to returning the favor by helping out this community in the future!

Those fruits look great. So what strain of Shiitake do you have? What are your blocks made with?

Great job on your shitake!
I'm currently trying shitake for the first time, but I just discovered the city I was planning on selling them in at the farmers market has a store that sells shitake for $4.99 a pound. A POUND! And they look good. (comes from a big operation out of California). Oh well, I still have like 5 or 6 other types that they don't offer (king oyster, blue oyster, reishi, lions mane, nameko, pioppino...), I can jack up the price a little on those at least.
I am focusing on medicinal mushrooms because I really do believe in their health benefits, so I want them for my own families consumption, and I can sincerely convince others to consume them as well. And if I make a little off them in the process, well, so be it.

Well done! I've grown so many kinds of mushrooms but I've yet to get a great shiitake harvest. I'm hoping to change that but it's awesome you did so well!

I'd give ten to one odds that 'big operation' is a chinese importer. Get a few of their mushrooms and pony up $100 to have them lab tested for lead and mercury. Then, take the results to your local health department and get them pulled off the shelves. RR

Great plan RR! Im sick of shoddy, below par produce imported here in the uk too. Truly is a global problem and its not just the mushrooms that are dodgy from china.

No lie there RR. I've been having to educate quite a few shoppers as to why it is the "organic" mushrooms they are buying are so darn inexpensive. Lots of people just don't even bother to ask the right questions.
Great grow there Ferg! Looks like you absorbed lots of info and put it to good use.
