If this is a Boob Cactus, I think I just Got a Nice Rack :)
    #13999206 - 02/21/11 12:53 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

You may have already guessed it, I managed to track down a Monstrose Myrtillocactus geometrizans, this form of Myrtillocactus is sometimes nicknamed a boob or breast cactus & is properly know as "Fukurokuryuzinboku".

I couldn't help but touch the boobs when I was re-planting & in the process managed to rub some of the light blue coating from the skin. Does anyone know how long will it will take for this colouring to return & or what causes it? maybe there is a way I could speed up the process?

Haha, nice specimen though NGX. Super cool

The blue coating is called glaucous and as far as I know it's just a waxy coating, dunno what if anything it does for the plant though. Cheers.

Cool, even if the glaucous doesn't grow back, I'm sure the new growth will have an even finish around the areolas... as long as I don't keep playing with them

Cheers, I bought this particular cactus online, but buying online is not cheap & depending on shipping has the potential to cause rot, so be weary. I prefer to buy in person, but this can make finding rarer varieties of cacti hard if you don't know where to look. Usually 'lowes' type stores will only have a small selection of more common cacti & succulents, but don't count them out completely, I've occasionally found some more interesting specimens at bunnings.

Yeah, very nice. :boobs:

If you enjoy the glaucous look you should stop molesting your cacti. I know it's hard not to though.

Wow, instead of just growing longer it becomes double D and shows sideboob?

Definitely one of the best columnars , it's totally rad, and it's as easy as the Regular Geometrizans (maybe a bit slower)
Once the Fukurokuriyzinboku was a bit expensive, expecially if bought in cactus events, but now, it's possible to buy exermplars on the net for cheap

I really love how much "geometric" this one is. while regular Geometrizans has a rib count commonly ranging between 5 and 7, this one is stable on the 6 ribs

and looking at the Apical Mesistem shooting out 3 ribs at time is amazing.
