Bouncy Castle Madness! * 1

Bounce house blows away; lands child on a rooftop

MARANA, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Strong winds took an inflatable jumping castle into the air Saturday afternoon, landing a 9-year-old girl on a rooftop.  It happened at a home in the Vistas at Continental Ranch during a birthday party Saturday afternoon.

The 9-year old has serious head injuries, suffered when the castle traveled about 100 feet and landed about 13 feet off the ground, on a neighbor's roof.  An 11-year-old girl was also injured when she fell to the ground, falling from the jumping castle as it rose in the air.

The girls were taken to University Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. Northwest Fire Capt. Adam Goldberg says he's seen bounce house mishaps before, but never like this.

"[The jumping castle] essentially took about a hundred foot ride ending up on the house you see behind me," he said, pointing to a rooftop with broken tiles, "just above the window and to the right you can see there's about 20 roof tiles that have been damaged as a result of her impact."

Neighbor Tanya Rerecich saw the whole thing from her upstairs window.

"I've never seen wind like that before," she said, "it came and it was gone in maybe less than two minutes it was over.  And there was a child on a roof."

The 11-year-old has been discharged from the hospital and is doing well.  The 9-year-old girl was stable with non-life-threatening injuries Saturday night.

Goldberg says the bounce house was tethered to the ground and it appears no one is at fault.  He advises everyone to check the weather and take conditions into account when planning any outdoor activity.

This as just a crazy story I had to share.  I never imagined that could happen!

Normally, when I tether something to something else, they stay attached, and don't fly 100 feet away.

You've never tethered a carrier pigeon to your roof then.

My parents taught me about tethering as a very young child, with the help of some chains and the basement radiator

If I could afford a bouncy castle, I would try to reenact this event.

Sounds like a lot of fun...besides the head injury part.

I was weighing the fun of taking flight in a bounce house with the head injury.

I think it'd be worth it even with the trauma. Maybe you could even weasle some pain killers out of it.

Hell, if I got to experience bouncy castle flight, I would thank the guy, not try to sue him.

BUMP

Dr. Robotnik makes me do inappropriate things.

My carrier pigeon pulled it's leg off when I tied him up.

That was a really sad day :frown:

It never came back.
