Yea yo I ran into one in the gym and was cornered, he was like "Man the brothers really dug you bro we were really hoping you would have joined, you stuck out more than the rest of the guys at that party"
I think he was tellin the truth too, I was the only one who opened my mouth and had an opinion and made jokes. Anyway, I lied to him and told him I just didnt have the money and that I am really still considering it for next year. Come september, I'll be at his frat, drinking his beer, eating his burgers, then disappearing again.
The thing is, these people try to befriend you and in their case it was for one reason: They had a huge house and not enough people to fill it and were all getting shafted on the rent so they were pledging EVERYONE. I got so wasted at that party and just talked with half the people, they all had the same plan! Get drunk then never talk to them again, the other 50% who were gonna pledge were noodles.
I have yet to meet a frat person who was cool BUT the honors fraternities are different things, those people are cool and geeky.
They try and sell you on the dumbest shit, the parties are full of sorostitutes, shit just isnt me. Have fun RP, hope you guys throw a ballin rush week I'll come use you all.

O yea, the thing is, I got my friends for free, these kids touted that they were "brothers" yet they were all paying like 500$ a semester dues. I'm GOOD.

rp's mad because he's a wanna be frat boy.
You asked for experiences and now don't like to find out about 50% of the people at the rush shit are using these guys for what they are, what you might be down the line.
You can get better real friends for free. Well, I can at least I don't know you, maybe you need to pay for friends

It was relevant but douchey move nonetheless Just cuz people have different interests and hobbies doesn't make them tools, and you're the only one who looks like a tool going over there to rip off their food and drinks and mock them in your head in order to make yourself feel better. Got nothing better to do? Live and let live, man..

Yep, when they have you dancing around the basement in your underwear soaking wet getting hazed for friends, you totally aren't a tewl.
As for better to do? I live in a college town, the only thing TO DO is chase tail and drink beer, I was chasing beer that week, free beer. Man you're getting me ready for next semester now.

It's not the nicest thing to do but I don't think you've been exposed to enough frat culture to know the general nature of these people. I'm not saying they're bad human beings but i've been around them quite a bit and they are generally egotistical, uncultured, obnoxious, and frankly annoying. That is of course a subjective observation, but one that is applied to them often for good reason.

Fuck that I'm not getting hazed. I'm just looking for ways to meet new folks not really interested in that whole stereotyped frat lifestyle

I have an extreme bias against frats because I saw how bad they treated someone and they thought it was completely ok because it's "just hazing" but it went further than that.
I had this roommate who was easily "pressured" I guess you could say. Anyway, the dude was not a bad kid, we were different but we liked each other just different though. He tells me he met this frat, asks me to go but I already met my clique so I was like na I'm going to a party no thanks. week later, they have the pledge stuff, they shave parts of his head, make him look like a total retard and tell him that if they catch him with a hat on hiding his head, he's not aloud in the frat. He walked around with chunks of hair on his head looking like a dolt. That's the type of person in a frat, someone so desperate that they will bend over backwards to be part of this "brotherhood" and it was disgusting that they thought it was funny, that isn't friendship, that's doucheness, that's my experience with 90% of frats.
Anyway, he finally gets into the frat, drops around 485$. He asks me one night when I stayed in doing work to come with him to meet his brothers. I was like hey what the hell I'm not doin shit. I go there, they weren't nearly as gay as I had thought they would be, then my roommate left the room and the frat president and brothers started talking shit on my roommate saying "Man I wish that kid was caught with a hat bro we were just lookin for a reason to not let him in but he already paid the money" He comes back in, to his face they act like they're his best friend again! I tell my roommate, my roommate doesnt believe me and I just was so surprised at the amount of retardation I saw that night.
Those people aren't friends they're fucking douche bags. For 485$ I could pay for drinks all year and make REAL friends. I dont even think I drink that much a year, what a waste of money. Part of a brotherhood that hates you that you pay for lol. Not my life I don't care, you asked though, that's what I seen.
Lol, you'll get hazed or you wont get in, I said "90%" though because I DID meet ONE frat from three college campuses that did not haze, did not act like frat douches.

Hazing is extremely common in fraternities.
Hell week.
A fraternity at one of the major universities in my area got booted for wrapping a kid up in toilet paper and lighting him on fire, resulting in some pretty nasty burns.

the guys you meet are going to be frat guys, 90% you're better off not knowing, the girls you'll meet at the party's are sorostitues who you would rather not know. I am just SO FUCKING GLAD I met my group of friends because they have been the best group of people I have ever met because otherwise college I could see could have very weel been somewhat lonely, I got into a groove with the right 10 people, which turned into 20, which spawned into 30 and etc. Now we have weekly 50+ people parties and I've been to the frats at bumpin parties, I'm just saying, in my experience, my friends blow every frat out of the water.

If you want to meet people don't join a frat, join a club.

That story about your roommate fucking sucks. I don't understand how anyone would let people treat them like that on the subject of hazing, the frat my friend is in actually has a no hazing rep and he told me there wasn't any part of that sort of bullshit. But I don't know, I'm really just trying to get out more and meet folks like I said. I tried a couple clubs but the kids in there were way too nerdy for me lol

what club was it? Join a team sports one, the money you pay is for the activity fee and 1. it's good for your health, 2. you play a game with these people and that is the easiest way to make friends.
I don't belong to a club anymore, I started one and met a lot of people that way, but now my 2 friends do lax, I go practice with them and other groups and have met ppl like that too. College is really hard NOT to meet people.

that's not even the worst I have heard. People die from hazing almost annually.
If you come across a frat where they are actually all down to earth people who are your friends befor you join, sure, then I'd consider it. Actually nope still wouldnt, save your money, buy 500$ worth of beer.
