Who's participated in this? I understand very little of what it's about but from I can tell it's basically like "interviewing" for frats and then they decide if they choose you or not? Post your experiences

"Rush Week" is the period before pledging, the process of joining a fraternity or sorority, begins. It can last anywhere from 1-3 weeks depending on the policies of the university or greek organization.
'Rushing' is essentially a period of for you to check out the greek organizations that are out there and decide if they are right for you. Pledging is an invite only process and is also a time for fraternity and sorority members to decide weather or not they want to extend such an invitation to you.

I would suggest calling it a fraternity, at least if you're around members. Talking to people is probably the best way to get to know them, so yes you should expect to talk to people! Also, it's likely there will be a more formal interview at some point.

Haha okay let's pretend like they don't have that stereotype for a reason.
I'm not saying all frats are bad but a good percentage of them are. Just my opinion.

It's probably because your one of "those" type of people that gets made fun of/don't get in to the good parties.

You'd be quite wrong. I've always been popular in school since I was a child and well liked by 99% of people I encounter. I've been to "cool" frat parties and they plain and simple aren't that cool. I don't care for dopey sorority girls nor do I care for a bunch of immature dudes binge drinking. If that's your thing, cool, I have no problem with you doing it. But don't try and assume you know anything about me personally just because I don't like fraternities.

I'm not sure I like the frat lifestyle either. My friend's in a frat at my school and I was considering attending these events or something, just to check it out.
Mostly, I'm not overly pumped up like most of these guys, I don't binge drink and get crazy loud and stuff.

There is this kid I met at school: He was wearing a "Rush" shirt (The band)
Everyone thought it had something to do with a fraternity.

From what I know about sororities/fraternities, I'd never join one. It sounds really cliquish, and also really unnecessary drama-ish.
If only I could recall what movie put that image in my head..

That's because most of the people who join them can't let go of high school.

Not really, but glad you thought it was?
Iunno, I just think of fraternities and sororities as being like "popular" kids from high school who really just lacked intelligence and were willing to do asshole things for attention. And who caused unnecessary drama to make their lives look more interesting.
Keep in mind, I've never actually even met anyone from a sorority or fraternity, but it seems like all the kids I hated in high school would want to join one.
Puhh, I hate sports too, go figure.

I just thought it was supposed to be because of the "If only I could recall what movie put that image in my head" comment... cuz that implies those impressions aren't really based on anything
But I kind of feel that way too.. Who knows, maybe I'll check it out and see what it's about.

Or, didn't get to experience it like the rest of us.
imo, if you're ardent about joining a fraternity, you'd better do some thorough investigation. usually, there will be a chill group of stoners that kinda just use the fraternity as a way to meet more people/experience new things. of course, there will the ones who are super serious about it, but usually once you've pledged you never have to associate with them ever again.

Agreed. Frat parties are fun for a bit but they get old fast.

Rush week is FUCKING AWESOME. At my college at least, I rushed 3 frats, went, drank all their beer, ate all their food, when they called me to pledge I never picked up the phone, Those dudes were all tools so I used them accordingly.
