No, because unlike other unions, teachers can be arrested for striking.

We need to protest the banks, unemployment, government waste, balooning deficit, government corruption, graft, taxes, and wasted public money.
Protest social security scams, stock market scams, and the government.
We need to protest the legal system and the incarceration rate of nonviolent crimes.
When are we going to take to the street like Tunisia, Egypt, and Bahrain?
What would you protest? What do you think?
I'm actually satisfied with my life in USA. I work pretty hard and have enough money to go out for food and drinks pretty much whenever I want and smoke all the dank week I want. I won't be taking to the streets any time soon. Wish I could legally smoke weed and use psychedelics, but legality doesn't stop me anyways

It's as close as you're gonna get. Even then you're tied down; you need money and land and materials. But it's very possible to live low-key.

Why do you say that? Guess what, I grew up poor(still am) took out a shitload of loans to come to a university to get a degree and put myself out there to try and start a career and begin a new life and change my future. So far, my future is very bright in my opinion. I love this country, my only beef is its backward ass drug laws but things, they're a slowly changin.

Sprezzatura said: I'm 27, not far off... the thing is though, the generations before us wanted similar things, some things they got, some things they didn't. I agree some things will 'progress' as the generations evolve, but you're still going to have people with opposing view points no matter what their age is.
I party with guys who are 60 and still in bands and shit... I go on vacations with people in their 30's, and we all have pretty much the same kinds of ideas despite the age gap.
I see where you're coming from, but remember, nothing you're thinking has never been thought of before and no matter what generation it is, nothing is going to happen in any direction without a force moving it. Things wont just 'Get better' with generations to come.
Well, generally, similar minds draw together. But the older folks you party with are not in congress. The generation that is in office right now (1950's to 1960's) were WAY more conventional. Hippies were a SMALL part of the population. But today the general population thinks freely and more openly about ideas that were before considered immensely taboo. I still think there hope in a free voting government. I mean, when are generation gets the main voting power we will have gay marriage, stem-cell research, and anything else that had formerly been retarded by traditional views.
My point is more of America is liberal then ever before. Religion is openly patronized by many, and is becoming less believable by the day. Pot is viewed in the media openly and positively (Although sometimes stereotyping)....everything points towards not a revolution, but a change in the dispersement in power.

No one knows what the fuck they're talking about on either side... American protests = circus freak show.
Depends on where you live I suppose. In California, liberals complain about everything.

I think this country is def. on the right direction. Look at the gay movement, that shit wouldn't fly 100 years ago, look where they are now, gettin all civil unioned up n shit in 6 states and soon to be 7 if Hawaii goes that way.
Look at Uganda now, they're trying to imprison homos for life. This country is ballin compared to other places. Christ, you get executed in many countries for drugs.

The people really are not supporting the teachers anyway. Really the privet sector had to adapt to changing economic realities years ago; why shouldn't the public sector? Why are they so special -or rather- why do they think they're so special? Privet sector workers don't even get pensions anymore; why should public sector workers?
They will still be able to collectively bargain on their salaries; just not on pensions and such. That's smart because the pensions are the real problem anyway.
Really these public sector union folks are going to have a very hard time getting sympathy no matter how many people they bus in from out of town/state. It's really nice that they get to take paid sick time to have their little tantrum; what about the parents that have to stay home from work to watch their kids because schools are closed?
The more I think about it the more the concept of a "teacher's union" bothers me. Teachers are supposed to educate our children; so it is imperative that they do their jobs as best as humanly possible. Teacher's unions look after the best interests of the teachers and not the students.
Unions tend to treat all their members equally; they tend to not recognize performance that is above and beyond nor do they allow underperforming workers to be punished. This is what is really starting to bug me: there are teachers out their that have no business in front of a classroom because of union protection.

The only reason it wouldn't work is because this country is full of pussies that have so much doubt. We will have change in the country when our citizens stop giving a fuck what happens to them and start caring about the country as a whole. But alas, it will never happen because our young people are the ones that need to do the protesting and all of them don't see the bigger picture. Once we become so uncomfortable that we have nothing to lose, then we will take to the streets. Until then.. our country will continue to be full of selfish fucks.

Never. When you DO take to the streets its going to be a bloodbath.
Think of the Egypt situation, how would the US government respond to that? And how many of your protesters would be armed and escalate brutal nonlethal force to lethal force?
Your government would handle it like China did, call on the army and send in veterans fresh from the war and deal with your initially nonviolent protest the American way.

What will you accomplish with this revolution? Switch off the power system to a different set of hands? who really have no obligation to follow through on any of there promises? To accomplish real revolution in this modern era the people need to take back the means of production into our own hands, in doing so taking back the direction of there future. we need to stop thinking strictly of our own selfish gain and be prepared to work towards something for the successive generations after us. activism isnt enough you gotta go out there and get shit down, contribute physically and monetarily its not enough to be a armchair activist, actually going out there and inciting change is the difference between a activist and a revolutionary
