the question being, when we mix sub to field capacity we all know the squeeze test. after the spawn has colonized the sub fully, if i break off a chunk of sub from a tub, and give it the squeeze test, should it still react the same with a few drips for a light squeeze and a thin steady stream to a hard squeeze. or since it has colonized is it a totally different ballgame?
just wondering because i just took a chunk off of a tub that i felt may be a bit dry and when i squeezed it its definitely not dripping moisture like pre spawnrun.

Let me answer with a question:
Do living things drink water?

LOL interesting question, it is a first. Never thought about squeezing some sub....But yeah, what Larry said...Myc uses the water and produces heat...So I don't think the squeeze test applies to colonized substrate since it is using the water....If the moisture was fine before colonization, it should be ok

and BTW, don't pick apart your sub because it looks dry...I think that can be a vector for contams. If its completely dry then it can't colonize with contams because they need water too...

larry, it seems like a really simple question, but whats the answer. field capacity before the spawnrun is a few drips when squeezed. field capacity after the spawn run is what? a slight moistness?
according to larry, its going to be less but how much. ok lets say its going to be less, im ok with that.
but after a dunk...whats the field capacity. after a dunk, this will be the most moisture the sub can hold, so is it back to the few drips per squeeze or is it also going to be less. i think its a pretty good question.
igrowstuff, im not too concerned about a tub getting contaminated if i learn something from doing whatever it was that caused the contam. i can always start a new tub. but thx for the conern
so anyone else besides larry have any thoughts
