Quoted from my journal. Hope it helps all of you who don't have access to a flowhood!
Go ahead and comment and let me know if you think there are any improvements I should make.

"eureka! What a great substitute for a laminar flowhood!"
So, this is what I used for sterile procedure for quite some time. I've done much sterile work inside it, with very few contamination problems. The one and only time the device failed was when I unknowingly tried to conduct a shmuv session in a house with the swamp cooler on.
Lost all G2G transfers performed that day.
So, if you do this in a small to medium sized room, with virtually no air movement except for the fan blowing through the air filter, and spray the ever-living shit out of the ambient air with Oust or some other similar air sanitizer, it'll work great.
I've poured hundreds and hundreds of plates in the shmuvbox, and none of them ever contaminated.
Well, let's get started. Today, we'll be pouring some plates, so we'll set everything up while the agar cools:

You can do LC inoculations, G2G transfers, inoculation of bags with grain jars, agar work, anything you can do in a flowhood or still-air box, really.
You'll need these things:
- HEPA air filter. Doesn't need to be true HEPA air filtration either. The one I used only filtered down to 95% efficiency, I think. The higher the filtration the better, so there's not one particular type you need. The one I used was about $30.00 from Wal-Mart
- transparent 50-gallon drum liners.
- Packing tape
- Razor blade/utility knife
- Materials to place into shmuvbox
- Sanitary tools
- Table
- Chair
Here's a pic of the air cleaner I used:

Lay out a bag on your table:

Fold one side at about 30% of the width lengthwise:

Do the same with the other side:

Fold up the bottom of the bag as well, by about the same thickness of the sides you just folded up:

Get some tape:

Tape the bottom area down with an "X":

Do the same thing along the sides of the bag, making sure to leave about 18" or so at the top to allow the air filter to be taped on:

Now, fold the top of the bag over, and place a small loop of tape toward the bottom of the fold like so:

This will help hold the bag in place better. It's not necessary, but it's helpful.
Flatten back out:

Place air cleaner down inside the bag like so:

Fold the bottom of the bag up the side of the air cleaner, and tape:

Now, stretch the top of the bag along the gap between the control knobs and the output grill:

Tape along the top of this bag, taping over the knobs a little bit.
Knifey-knife time!

Cut around the knobs:

Grab the side of the bag and organize it as pictured:

Now, accordion-fold the bag up, and tape:

Be sure to leave the other side open to inject the tools in the bag through!

Now, accordion-fold the bag and tape up after all the utensils are put inside:

Now, remember those little pieces from the knobs?

Use them to tape the edge of the top of the bag away from the output grill, to allow air to flow through more of the output area:

If you threw those little pieces away, just cut up some new small pieces.

Next part requires skill, speed an finesse, so get the knife at the ready.
Now, turn on the lowest setting, as well as the ionization option:

Now, wait until the bag inflates almost all of the way, while estimating where you're going to need to place holes for your hands, and before the bag starts to over-inflate, cut the slits for your hands:

Get little pieces of tape, and tape a fold into the slits, so that when your hands aren't in the slits, the plastic overlaps:

Now it's all set up!

Spray a thick cloud of air sanitizer into the room, go chill out in another room for about 15-20 minutes, and then go in, glove up, and get to work!

Yep, that's what I think inspired use of the first one.
I'm a much bigger fan of my flowhood, and can't think of any reason I'd go back to using this now that I have one.
Hopefully, though, it'll get people started on agar work and such.
I know it shouldn't work in theory. However, like I've said numerous times, and I'll say it again:
Even though something might not work in theory, occasionally we should look at the results.
