Mindfulness * 1
    #13991706 - 02/19/11 07:15 PM (13 years, 14 days ago)

I love when you get a book that is profound.
Hopefully this excerpt from the book "Mindfulness" by Bhante Henepola Gunaratana, will help those in a bad place.

“Vispassana meditation is a set of training procedures that gradually open us to this new view of reality as it truly is.  Along with this new reality goes a new view of that most central aspect of reality “me.”  A close inspection reveals that we have done the same thing to “me” that we have done to all other perceptions.  We have taken a flowing vortex of thought, feeling, and sensation and solidified that into a mental construct.  Then we have stuck a label onto it: “me.”  Forever after, we treat it as if it were a static and enduring entity.  We view it as a thing separate from all other things.  We pinch ourselves off from the rest of that process of eternal change that is universe, and then we grieve over how lonely we feel.  We ignore our inherent connectedness to all other beings and decide that “I” have to get more for “me”; then we marvel at how greedy and insensitive human beings are.  And on it goes.  Every evil deed, every example of heartlessness in the world, stems directly from the false sense of “me” as distinct from everything else.”

This is exactly what I've come to realize lately, The complexity of our connectedness is beyond my personal comprehension, but I "feel" it more now than ever. It's time to make anyone willing to listen aware.

It is a breath of fresh air to know people like Gunarantana are on this planet.  Amen brother, In the words of another great wise man.  "For the heart of this people has grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their heart.

There is a wealth of knowledge out there passed down from the greats, but by having a concept of "me" a lot of people wont understand or care.

My friend has been pushing me to go to a week long vispassana retreat with him for a long time now. You take a vow of silence for the entire retreat (except for special times to ask questions from instructors) and spend the majority of the day in meditation.
I definitely want to go, I just need to find the time.

At first sight, The Perfection of Wisdom is bewildering, full of paradox and apparent irrationality.

Vipassana is translated as "insight," a clear awareness of exactly what is happening as it happens.  Samatha is as "concentration" or "tranquility" where you focus on one thing when meditating.

Thank you. I just purchased it. Excited to delve into this. May I suggest a book to you? One that opened the door to this life I now live. It's called Conversations with God by neale donald walsch. Here is a link.

http://www.amazon.com/Conversations-God-Uncommon-Dialogue-ebook/dp/B004I5BN0O/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2&s=digital-text&qid=1298191741&sr=1-17

If you are like me, then you may be kind of turned off by the title. Don't let the perverse perception that religion holds on the term "god" discourage you in seeking this in yourself. I'm at a place where I feel like sharing the joy of awareness with others. I often find that just by asking the question the answers materialize in the exact perfect way. So who knows, maybe this post is your materialization of the questions you've asked. I'm breaking the barriers in my life that I previously lived by and am finding a whole new world worth waking up to see everyday.

I'd like to extend myself to you, I'm interested to learn what you may have to know if you are willing. Just post here and I'll pm you some contact info. I think it's time to start shifting the collective consciousness as a whole and it starts with us. I need to fully wake up, so I can wake others. If this is something you'd be interested in discussing don't hesitate to let me know. That goes for anyone's eyes that land on this post. I have a feeling it'll attract the exact right people.

As benzod said earlier. It's a breath of fresh air to know we aren't the only ones. We need a solid community to gather in, if only online. I want to surround myself with our type of people.
