Is this too much light?
    #13996437 - 02/20/11 04:15 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I recently started giving my BRF jars light once I heard it's more benifitial than just leaving them in darkness, well I have them next to a window about 2 feet away and let them sit in the light thru the blinds, (not that bright). I let them sit there until it's dark, so it's basically 12 on 12 off from nondirect sunlight, is this good for them or too much natural light?

Keep the sun's direct rays off your mycelium and it will do fine.

This jar stayed on an open shelf in my office for it's entire life:

Sorry if I sound complete idiotic for asking this, but like I said the shades are like cracked just enough where light is shining on them, would that be direct or nondirect

When you see dust motes floating in the air, you are seeing them IN THE SUN'S RAYS.  That is what you want to keep your jars out of. Keep in mind that the ray's that enter a window will move across the room with the sun's travel through the sky. The light that is in the room from it being daylight however, is harmless.

I hope this made sense.:headbanger:

So basically just keep them away from a window to get the lighting

:headbang3:Yes, keep them out of DIRECT sunlight.  Diffused light is fine.

It'll be fine I would make sure they don't get above 80-85F or you have a higher risk of contams

You'll be fine as long as the room temp is between 65-82F
