storing sensitive data

I have some sensitive data I need to securely store, but I do not want to risk storing this information on my personal computer. I have narrowed my options down to two, both of which involve wireless hard drives:
1. Wireless hard drive, placed inside a safe I have in my house which is bolted to the foundation. 2. Wireless hard drive, mounted inside a wall and will be powered via a separate power cord I will run to the location. the wall would then be sealed up and look like nothing is there at all
I like option 2 better, but I can't decide. any opinions?

If your goal is to store it securely, wireless is probably the dumbest thing you could do (you might not be able to see it, but it's there and easy to find).
I would suggest you investigate encryption and stenography rather than the physical security of the drive. Specifically encryptfs, truecrypt, and the like.

are you constantly changing the info on the drive?
no reason to have it on 24/7 if you dont need to. put the info on the drive and store it somewhere.
if it was really sensitive then you wouldnt want to keep it at your house.. think if your house burnt down.
also, wireless hard drives are stupid. you need a wire for power so you can just as easily run an ethernet cable and not deal with the wireless nonsense.

truecrypt is going to be your best bet.

they do.
my point was that you are already running a power cable.. it cannot ever be wireless. it would be easier to just run an ethernet cable than deal with wifi (which can be a PITA).

Wireless is a no-go for security period. Build up a server with a TPM and whole drive encryption. Get a good case that will lock shut and actually keep someone out, but don't worry about hiding it or putting it in a safe. Any half-assed network tech can locate a physical server, wireless or otherwise, and the authorities will cut open your safe like merry Christmas.

wow, u just told anyone who wish's to view this thread, that at your ip address, there is data so sensitive you need to go threw all this to protect it. its almost like you just offered a challenge to the programmers, computer scientist, and at home computer wizz's to see if they can obtain it.....smart
