Insanity is defined by trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
The people in power in this country are insane.

To whoever was involved with even the thought of initiating procedures leading to such a ban
Can't believe my beautiful country is adopting yet another idiotic (and actually quite useless and wasteful) ban. Since when do we elect people to work hard all day long in a very coordinated manner to go backwards instead of making progress?
(Sorry for off topic but did they pass that bill on mandatory minimum sentencing for cultivation of marijuana? cant find the site containing the update...)

Hasn't gone through the house yet.
With any luck it will get torn apart and tossed aside.

Canadians:
Please fight the ban. Call your representatives and tell them not to ban it. Get everyone else to as well. Organize some resistance.
A good way to start is to use the existing cannabis/drug reform networks. Get the word out on canadian mailing lists and websites. People who work to reform marijuana laws will have a lot of empathy towards other plants.
Also start mailing lists and web sites devoted specifically to fighting the Salvia ban.
I know not everyone smokes salvia, but it is about injustice / freedom, and about not putting people in prison who don't belong there. Not a good use of police time or tax dollars.
When California was considering banning salvia, I called the house member who introduced the bill and told his secretary that it was not a good idea. She gave an unexpected response, and asked for my phone number, telling me that she would have someone who knows more about it call me back. A few minutes later I got a call from the legislative assistant who wrote the actual bill! We had a friendly discussion about it that lasted nearly two hours, and I went over all the points I mentioned above. He had some counter points and I was able to mitigate many of his concerns. He was worried that this could be the next ecstasy, and I told him that when ecstasy was banned in the 80's almost no one had ever heard of it, and now, due to prohibition, its a household word. He was also concerned that we just didn't know what the long term effects of salvia are. However I countered that we should not send people to prison just because we don't know - Criminal punishment should be reserved for cases where there is actual harm.
In the end we agreed to disagree, however the bill never made it out of committee and was never reintroduced, perhaps partially due to our conversation.
One more thought, politicians are usually willing to meet face to face for 15 minute meeting to discuss an issue. If you dress well and explain these points in person and discuss their concerns, that will have much more impact than a letter or a phone call.

basically its a plant and if you hold in the smoke of a cutting you may laugh or feel nervous
thats all that needs to be said, if they were worries about extracts they'd need to worry about swimming.

"The effects of Salvia are very important to know for people. Salvia is a distinct looking plant that when smoked can provide 5 minutes of elation or nervousness. If salvia was banned no one would have any idea what it does and not have any responsibility if anything bad came out of it.
Savlia Divinorum needs to be regulated and taxed for safety issues, while Salvia Extract is more potent it generally last less then 5 minutes with a 45 minute afterglow that has more to do with elation and wakefulness. Also people can not drive during the depths of a salvia extract trip, when people come to everything is fine. People need to be aware this goes away or at least not be in a car driving if they smoke a hard variant such as this.
It is not like LSD which last for hours or has a dependence issue like alcohol and tobacco. It won’t tax the health care system either like diabetes.
Making it illegal will cause the price of it to skyrocket and be sold without any safety net."
That's what i wrote

Time to get me a clipping and save this poor plant.
-------------------- In ancient times, when demons roamed with man, They hunted, loved and lost, hand in hand, As time went on, the difference between them faded. You couldn't tell anymore, demons and man were related, and some would say the same, but who would like to claim? In time, Gods had even forgot, Demons, too, once love had sought. In times recent I remember, Once I was a man, In my heart I had an ember, I'll relate the best I can but it was snuffed, one distant December. And yet here I stand, no flesh, no bones, no seed or semen, All that's left is this Demon.

Just as I suspected, everyone in Canada is too stoned to organize any resistance.
Come on guys, am I going to have to do this from California?

Not all of us are to stoned
I have already contact the moderators of
http://whyprohibition.ca
To help spread the news and to perhaps create an awareness of this issue. I have also told every single person who I know and talk to about this ban and what it means to me. I am ready to fight the good fight and I have been hunting down phone numbers and e-mail addresses for my MP's to let them know my opinion.
This is an outrage to me and makes me feel like my rights have personally been violated seeing as I use small doses of salvia to control my bi-polar disorder along with other herbal medicines.
Making salvia illegal will stop all scientific research of the active compounds in the lab and will be tossing a very medicinal and therapeutic plant into prohibition along with all the others.
Fellow Canadians, put the joint down for the afternoon and stand up and rebel!
