what did aleister crowley and the like do that had people believe in them?
    #13989337 - 02/19/11 10:26 AM (13 years, 14 days ago)

so, in the past there's been people who have dabbled into magic and the like and have had decent followings, but what is it that they were able to do to that made people believe in them? sure, all the philosophies are interesting enough to read into and stuff but .. what actual magic did they perform to prove themselves?

I'm not positive, but according to Google, Crowley is responsible for 9/11.

Well, claiming to be the prophet of Horus and writing a book purporting to contain the channelings of its messenger seems to have convinced quite a few people.

He performed evocations and other rituals of ceremonial magick with other people, yes.  IIRC Victor Neuberg participated in the summoning of Choronzon with Crowley in the Saharan desert.

Didn't you know that people also saw Jesus walk on water?  Why so skeptical about the veracity of eyewitness testimony, old man?

I think that you may be confused due to your limited understanding of what magic is. Magic is the process of altering someone's subjective reality. When understood that way, it becomes quite obvious that magic is very real. If you were thinking of things like Harry Potter as an idea of what magic is, that is just a very obviously ridiculous concept.

By that definition the term becomes relatively meaningless.  It's just another religion based on a tad of psychology.:pope:

duh, exactly. It's not meaningless if you think about the implications of it. Look at marketing campaigns! That's magic, man.

It's psychology.  Magic is a term for dummies who want the impossible but will settle for the mediocre and make it a religion.

Magic is, according to Crowley, and I agree with him, the "Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will."

Truth, proof - falsity, lies, illusion.
It's where these "opposites" meet that you find 'magick'.

Illusion IS real. That's for sure, or maybe not.

As you can see from the above, there is a certain type that are drawn to "magic".  :crazy2:
