I could see the appeal of supporting the underdog though. Like being a rebel. I guess most people don't have that thought process though when they buy one. They just think it looks cool.
Take a look at your promised land. Your deed is that gun in your hand. Mt. Zion's a minefield. The West Bank. The Gaza strip. The West Bank. The Gaza strip. The West Bank. The Gaza strip. The West Bank. The Gaza strip. Soon to be parking lots for American tourists And fascist cops, yeah.
Fuck zionism. Fuck militarism. Fuck americanism. Fuck nationalism. Fuck religion. Fuck religion. Fuck religion. Fuck religion. Fuck religion. Fuck religion. Fuck religion. Fuck religion.

I would consider wearing one as a political statement if not for the hipsters who've co-opted it for themselves.

Actually the conflict has been going on for over 100 years, though I'm not sure when the keffiyeh became associated with the Palestinian side. Israelis actually called themselves Palestinians back in the early 1900's
by the way, a keffiyeh is not a scarf.
These are all keffiyehs:

Today, Red and White Keffiyehs actually symbolize Hamas (a Palestinian "party"), though back in the day they were associated with Jordanians.
*Edit: The color differentiation is now more indicative of political faction amongst residing Palestinian party's. Keffiyehs have become a thing of Palestine.
