Mutual Funds
    #13988182 - 02/19/11 01:01 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Ive been starting to get into mutual funds and they seem to work for my type of trading/saving. If I keep money in my bank ill spend it. So I load it into my scottrade then sit on it till I want to do soemthing.

So far Ive got 3k in Icenx(MF) and 3k spread over a few stocks im not gonna go into detail about.

I like mutual funds they seem a little safer and what not. I have another 3k stashed and am deciding if I should put more in my Icenx fund or move onto a high yield or maybe a vanguard fund.

Whats everyones thoughts on mutual funds? I know asking on a shroomery forum may be the wrong place but I would rather have opionions here than a financial site where everyone just amps thier shit up.

Maybe someone can throw me a few funds to look at. I wanna put more in my ICENX but I dont know just dont wanna end up with 10k, which is alot of money for me. Then bam it crashes or soem bullshit.

Ive been looking at
VWEHX
VWILX(4-6k investment)
VUIAX(possibly Investing monday)
VPGDX ( This One Looks Super Good)(4.64 yield and looks like its gonna keep going up)
JHHBX
JHAQX
The only thing Ive noticed about vanguard is its got high div but high fees also.

Maybe someone can chime in and just give me a little advice. There is so many funds to choose High yield load no load.

I think your answer depends entirely on your goals. Mutual funds are only as stable as the sectors they are invested in, so it's more important to look at those variables-- and thoroughly understand them--  than the basis points of interest promised.

People forget that a salesmen who touts mutual funds as among the safer options never mentions the fact that it is only relatively safe as compared to other, less-diversified holdings. They can still go down. In other words, it should not be looked at as a necessarily safe place to put your savings. As with every other investment vehicle, it involves risk.

The safest method is in owning tangible, real assets, or funds that are centered around them.
Consider current global volatility and uncertainty.
It exists regarding long-term currency valuations of assets, and valuations of many critically-unhealthy fiat systems themselves. Those two factors may well make many strictly earnings-based ('dollars and cents') indexes pale in actual value versus paper value.

The important thing is, if you've really done the homework, regardless of the sector, your confidence will be well-earned.

That's my answer. Only you can know if you are familiar enough with the levers and pulleys of your mutual fund sector(s) to be on the right horse for your goals.
You might be better knowing about the better players in the sectors themselves-- the heavies, as it were. Or, the strong, saavy up-and-comers- the innovators--in the sector that are making the whole sector envy their talent and vision. Every sector has these companies, and it is a very rewarding form of investing.

Well-chosen and implemented mutual funds are excellent investments, because they invest in the best companies and commodities and wrap it into a big comfy money-maker for years and years.

Only one opinion, based off one reading of the current conditions. You may be smarter than me.

I wish you well in all cases.

:peace:

Mutual Fund is a great place to let your money grow with lower risk or no risk. Here, you have flexibility to withdraw any time just like your saving account.
