In regards to comedy

Is a comedian that makes you laugh in discomfort performing a public service?

Mind if I ask a follow up?

In my effort to chase down the root cause of all emotion...laughter is one I have trouble tracing.

The best I can do is get to the idea that deeeeeep down we all have some notion of the absurdity of it all...and when a situation shows this plainly we find it hilarious.

But that doesn't really cover sarcastic humor and stuff.

SNL doesn't really get me to laugh out of discomfort. But some of the Digital Shorts that come out are damn funny. Dick in a box particularly, LOL

I don't think saturday night live is HORRIBLE, but some times I feel like the actors are all really gay.....

The gay rights movement is happening and they push on that edge. But I'd probably laugh harder if they'd make a joke out of how fucking awkward they feel when doing it rather than trying to pretend it's no big deal.

That awkwardness comes through the sketches anyways and IMO diminishes what they're trying to accomplish.
