Amoung those peers that have serious beliefs in god, owning someone in a debate is not going to turn you into a social outcast for the rest of the school year.

Saying anything other than that you are a Christian (or at a bare minimum, religious) in these parts socially damages you beyond what you would expect.
I'm not saying he should or shouldn't have "owned" (whateverthefuckthatmeans) someone over their paranoid superstitions.
Just that if you happen to be of the demographic that doesn't have them, and you happen to live in the retard belt, you best shut the fuck up or get ready to be a complete loner. People around here will literally not speak to you, stare you right in the face and pretend you aren't talking if they thing you're some kind of devil atheist who must be out to corrupt their very soul with every syllable.

Owned: v. owned, 0wned, pwned, 0wn3d, pwn3d, own3d. v. tr. To be made a fool of; To make a fool of; To confound or prove wrong; embarrasing
I wouldnt really give a fuck about my social standing among a bunch of random retards who think they know everything there is to know about the origins of the world, and remain in a superstitious paradigm of satan and god/ heaven and hell. I would enjoy getting them and could give less of a damn about what they thought of me afterwards

have you tried to "own" a religious fanatic?? i'd get farther driving my face into a 6 foot thick concrete wall at 30 miles per hour...
and if i were to shut down his belief openly, wouldnt i just be participating in one of the things i hate most about them? their annoying need to convert everybody to their chosen religion...

Now that you mentioned it I have, went back and forth for a hour and half using every counter argument and all the rationality I could throw at him, by the end I was wanting to rip my hair out at the roots. all he would fall back on when I got him with a argument was faith, Im gonna pray for you, and it feels good to believe man so it must be true.
You would accomplish more by banging your head off a brick wall

IMO trying to debate with people on the existence of "God" is pointless, and I say that with regard for both atheists and theists. They're perpetuating a false dilemma.
Now -on the other hand- if you're a Christian you say something like "the existence of God disproves evolution" or you're an atheist and you argue that "the universe is just a chasm of blind indifference"... I would gladly argue against both points.

So would I.
My experience in philosophy and religion classes has been the opposite of OPs, where, rather, the majority of the class was populated by annoying atheists who would spew "Dawkins talking points" like that all the time. I even got so annoyed by it I addressed the issue in an essay for one class and my teacher would comment back on how he was equally frustrated by the classes "lack of imagination".
Actually, in my entire philosophy of religions class the only kid who actually wasn't a douchebag about everything was this kid who was really into Sufi-Islam.
But I came from a big family where half of my aunts/uncles are hardcore Catholics... so I have exposure to the other side of the coin, too. Granted, catholics aren't anywhere near as bad as Evangelicals and Protestants (most of the time)... but every once in a while they draw ridiculous conclusions from the bible that are equally dogmatic.

we are talking Nietzsche in my Philosophy class, and this kid goes of on some tangent about why Nietzsche is wrong because god this and got that and bitch bitch bitch... it was all i could to to stop myself from jumping over a table and slapping this kid in the face...
dont they see that they have no solid logic behind their beliefs? dont they see the obvious hypocrisy of assuming that their religion is the only "real" truth??? i just want to ... but all i can do is
I'm not a religious person, but I don't understand why this classmate's beliefs bothered you so. It seems like his words brought you over the line to anger and even close to physical violence. You seem to have a real deep seated hatred and intolerance for people with beliefs that run counter to yous.
Hey wait a second...
