Reusing syringesF

I'm wondering how many of you reuse your syringes indefinitely. Do you just sterilize it with alcohol? Does anyone actually use glass syringes that are autoclavable and can be used indefinitely? I really want to not have to constantly buy new syringes.

No one really uses glass syringes. You might be able to get away with reusing your syringes if you "clean them real good" and use right away. Otherwise, those things will grow contamination if left long enough.
Also, I wouldn't go from one culture or spore solution to another, to prevent cross-contamination.
Generally, though, it is better to use a new syringe between every batch of jars/inocculant. In this way, you can rest more assured in your sterile processes, and rule out possible factors of contamination.

Here's what ya do. Boil water, suck some water into the syringe and a tiny air pocket so you can shake the water around when its inside. Then, squirt it out.
Fill it with water, let it sit for five minutes, purge it, and repeat. Do that about three times, each time dredging from the pot of boiling water. The last time you fill it you can keep it filled to use for spore solution or whatever.

it should eventually, if i am correct. and when it does it will be more prone to harbor contams.
i gave up on reusing my old syringes. i got away with it in the past. but, try losing a bunch of jars and see how you feel knowing spending a dollar would have saved you a big headache.

also, make sure there is no residue left. if there is, you may have to use something like vinegar, possibly bleach to loosen it up...then purge, rinse...repeat.

I PC mine. They are really cheap though so I do buy them often too but I do mail them away too.
If you use up your syringe suck up Sterile blank LC solution, it will make LC inside your syringe!
Flame the needle tip first ..

I think it's hilarious that some people don't reuse there syringes. Why don't you stop reusing your jars too? Maybe you should stop reusing the same pressure cooker as well? I don't care how cheap they are, that's a lot of money that builds up. Just suck up some boiling water, and wallah! Sterile.

I remove the needle, suck up boiling water, wrap in aluminum foil, and then pressure cook. With the hot water in the syringe. Most of it gets displaced during PCing, but at least I'm sure it's sterile before I use it. PC Everything!

I use the boiled water binge and purge technique. Boiling water kills alot of stuff, especially when you let it sit in the syringe for a few minutes before purging it and sucking up more boiling water.
You can PC it if you want to be extra-safe, but in my experience that's overkill. I change needles more often than I change syringes, but mainly because sometimes I derp and miss the inoculation hole and the needle will get a little hook on the tip, snagging on everything.
