Almost two months since inoculation, made on Feb 4th, started fruiting on Feb 18th and here we are now April 1st. Both pasteurized bags were made on the same day.
The supplemented bags were inoculated on Feb 9th, started fruiting around March 1st.
It seems that the environmental conditions of a SGFC speeds up the progress of coloring and growth as both pasteurized blocks were made the same at the same time fruited around the same time etc. Only variable between that block and the other is I placed it in the SGFC on March 14th.
As far as I know you should harvest when the leading edge of white in the fruit body starts to turn red. That is what they say for the conks, not sure how it works for the antlers. Either way I am enjoying watching them grow so might let them go for a while longer.
I plan to start some more reishi projects at a later time hopefully with a few different strains, I am in love with this fungi

UPDATE:
April 11th 2011

Pasteurized Blocks

Supplemented Blocks
Today I choose to harvest one of the pasteurized blocks. Here are some pictures of the process
Before Harvest

It took a good amount of prying and wiggling to get this bastard separated from the sawdust substrate

274 Grams of fresh Reishi antlers

After shredding it all up here is what we have. I saved one antler to dry whole for a souvenir.

Wicked pics Evil! Congrats on the success
Do you plan on continuing with medicinals? Or was this a novelty to say that you had done it?
Never mind ..lol..I read up thread. I got tunnel vision on the antlers.

Beautiful reishi. I have been thoroughly enjoying this log and all the photos. Definitely inspiring. Looking forward to seeing the other blocks through to harvest too.

Thanks guys!
Things are drying as we speak and tomorrow morning I plan to ingest my first cup of Reishi tea!
Of course I will keep updated with the other blocks, and I have some plans in the future to try a different strain under the same conditions.
Thanks everyone for following along!

These look fantastic! I love reishi! Mine is in my FC at the moment but nothing happens. If nothing happens, I'll take them outside. It's foolproof. Thank you for sharing this with us!

Update:
I figure the harvest from block #1 should be dry by tomorrow, I plan to make a water based extract and freeze individual dose's in an ice cube tray along with making some tea.
I will also update with a dry weight and perhaps pictures.

Thank you kind sir,
I have yet to try any now that they are dry, I figure this weekend I will brew up some tea for myself and the lady to give it a try. I plan to start at a low dosage just in case either of us have adverse reactions, it is my understanding that this is a good idea for trying any new mushroom.
Thanks for the inspiration Meph, you set me on the right track brother and I greatly appreciate it

Fantastic results evil. I might have to snag one of your pics for my screen background. Very pretty looking. Seems that the pasteurized block is doing nicely.

This is an awesome thread Evil. I just received a bag of Reishi grain spawn in the mail today and am very excited to get this amazing mushroom growing. Thanks for documenting the progress of your blocks. Clearly your persistence has paid off!

UPDATE:
Last night I tried my first cup of reishi tea by myself and lets just say I have had an adverse reaction.
I steeped around 2.5 grams of reishi in boiling water for 5-10 minutes before adding a tea bag and ingesting.
15-20 minutes later I started to feel a slight tingle in my arms and under my skin all over my body and an uneasiness started to form in my stomach. I started to feel really uneasy and my stomach started to do flips. I ended up puking 5 separate times and spent most of the night feeling terrible and not myself. I ended up falling asleep and woke up this morning feeling fine.
I went about my day and was fine until I ate some lunch. About 20 minutes after eating lunch I started to feel sick again and the feelings of uneasiness and flushing started again. I ended up puking up my lunch and over the last few hours have dealt with feeling off.
I am just now starting to feel better and the sensations of unease and tingling have started to go away, although I do not plan to eat anything else today in hopes that whatever is still in my system is flushed away.
Needless to say this was all not a pleasant experience and I do not plan to ingest reishi again.
Side note: I have in the past been hyper sensitive to many medications both natural and otherwise and have severe allergic reactions to fungal based anti-biotics. I am not surprised at my reactions to reishi and I am glad that I choose a smaller dose for my first tea.
This just goes to show once again that we are all different and you should always approach ingesting a new mushroom with caution.

Damn, EM, that's terrible! Hope you feel completely better soon! It's a shame you'll have to miss out on all the goodies from reishi. Being a stubborn idiot that I am, I'd probably try it again just to make sure it wasn't a cleansing reaction or something. But better not to play with fire. I just harvested my first block and will be making my first cup of tea tomorrow, this is unfortunately a good warning and I'll sure be careful. But this doesn't sound like a regular allergic reaction, did you notice anything besides stomach problems afterwards?
