i was just going to ask if there was a certain ratio of water, to add to fuel pellets...but thanks
but i just poured enough hot water til it stopped soaking it up, then broke it all up, and let it strain for awhile til it was at the propery consistancy that i wanted...then added my bran at 4:1 sawdust/bran...we'll see how it goes :-P

UPDATE:
Here are the pasteurized blocks moving along nicely:
Here are the supplemented blocks:

I am going out today to look for a bigger fruiting chamber so I can move some things around and have room to fruit my shiitake blocks. I will update with more pictures on Monday-Tuesday.

I have built a green house with a cool mist before and it did not work for me in the slightest. It provided proper humidity, but the FAE part was a bit lacking even with slits in the plastic and leaving the door open a bit. Do note I was trying to grow oysters in it, It might have worked for other species. Either way the coolmist died after a few months and I was back to the drawing board.
I plan to build a humidity and FAE system this spring for my indoor greenhouse using a small blower fan and a pond fogger. I feel no need to mess with a greenhouse again until I have the time and materials to build it properly.
For the time being 115L totes are on sale, so I figure I will move the other pasteurized reishi block into the current SGFC, and then the 115L SGFC will be for my shiitake projects.
EDIT: So far I have 4 blocks of reishi, 2 are just pasteurized fuel pellets nothing else, the supplemented blocks are fuel pellets and BRF as the supplement.
As far as shiitake goes I have done 1 pasteurized block, and have another 2-3 colonizing as we speak. The yields are smaller then if you supplemented with wheat bran and gypsum.

Those reshi are looking great! Glad to see you beat them this time around Evil!
Good luck on the new martha design. I am currently working out the bugs in my smaller one. It seems the buoys they provide you with don't always keep the ultrasonic down far enough to operate properly all the time..
soloution...crazy glue some washers to the buoy.

Reishi looks great EM! The pasteurized blocks look better than the supplemented. It'll be interesting to see how they weigh in.

Yes but have no Oysters yet but have Reishi with the sterilizing of pure Douglas Fir sawdust pellet blocks. I do have 1 block that has been sterilized but am waiting for it to fruit as it is a oyster pellet block

Also note that they were made a while apart. I cannot remember how many days off the top of my head, but I will get back to you.
Once I am done harvesting all 4 blocks I am thinking of trying a reishi mono again, maybe a few blocks for outside so I can get some conks.
Either way reishi is a slow but beautiful fruiter and I cannot wait to try my first cup of reishi tea, and my first medicinal extraction.

Well that explains the day/night difference. I have suspected for a long time that reishi doesn't really gain much from supplementation...or to put it another way that it gets all the supplementation it needs from grain spawn. It's nice to see a side by side comparison. I noticed that if I have my reishi with peppermint tea it completely disguises the bitter taste of reishi. Other red tea's work well. Enjoy the fruits of your labor. You deserve them!!

Did you use any gypsum in the sat blocks, or just SD?

I went back and those blocks are only 5 days apart. I will be moving the second pasteurized block into my clear SGFC later today, and all shiitake projects are going into my new 115L SGFC. Will update with pictures later.
Base: No gypsum whatsoever. I have just recently started using gypsum with my grain spawn and shiitake blocks. I purchased roughly a lb for $3 CDN, so when that runs out I will be waiting for spring to get a big bag from a nursery.

Just got finished drilling holes and filling my SGFC with perlite:

I used 1/2 pint jars underneath to raise the chamber up. I choose to place my reishi blocks into the new 115L SGFC, and I have placed the three shiitake blocks in my smaller clear chamber. I birthed two shiitake cakes today and we shall see how that goes. But this thread is about reishi so lets get to the pictures!

The two supplemented blocks will be joining the SGFC very shortly.

Good luck cutting those! They'll be about as tough as leather now. And if I'm not imagining things, those plates are pinning! Btw, both blocks look amazing, EM!!

I was planning on using a new blade... And those plates were the last ones poured so they got a bit of agar chunks, they might have a few small pins thou

Thanks for the kind words Tangich, things are moving along nicely.
I moved all 4 blocks into the SGFC and I will add some pictures up later tonight.
Total: If you want me to send another wedge next time I go back to stock culture let me know. Your lucky it was just the agar plates and not the grain jar, reishi gives you a small window to spawn, after that good luck getting the grain out of the jars!
