Cakes per FC?

Hey there,
Nine tall half-pint jars have been inoculated, thirteen more will be inoculated today, and hoping that ten more will be inoculated the week after.
I will be using a SGFC. How many cakes would be able to fit in a 105qt Sterilite tub, without being over crowded, with these dimensions: (L x W x H): 26.38 x 16.0 x 12.13? ..or better yet, would 20 cakes be able to fit?
I've read that they should be anywhere from 1-3 inches apart from each other in the chamber, but would like to confirm.
Should I buy each inoculated set its own fruiting chamber in order to minimize the chances of contamination, or would this not be a worry?
Thanks!

I fit 19 cakes into the exact same FC as you. They were the wide mouth 1/2 pint. I could have probably crammed more in there, too. I don't think 30 tall half pints is unreasonable to fit in there if you're careful with your space. Just cut your foil so it fits the cakes just right (unless you're using lids, then nevermind). I kept mine pretty close (1-2" max) to each other, and this provided an awesome super humidity zone for them to flourish in.

Thanks!
Have you grown with less cakes in the same chamber?
I'm curious to know if stuffing them all in will hurt their growth or not.

i think one factor is the surface of perlite. when it's all covered, there's no use of the perlite. however, this pic in RRs gallery shows pretty clearly that space seems to be the only limit:

I have not grown with less cakes in that FC. I have read from TC's that a large FC with a few cakes is fine though - but I cannot give you a specific quote to it, sorry.

More cakes is better, to a point. If they all go off at once, it can get crowded.

Thanks for all of the input, guys!
I started the process (14 jars), but left the microtape at home. =( I'm gonna run and get it so that I can pop these in the PC. I'll give you all positive ratings once I've returned!

Having them closer together in my opinion is better. They will provide a nice micro-climate for each other

I did one cake in a big fc. Did fine. And ya don't need micropore tape. After looking at it under the microscope, I wouldn't use it again, except for a sort of "dustcover" over holes.
Also, cross-contamination in an FC is not really an issue if you have healthy cakes.

Trade List! Don't use incubators. An incubator is for contamination as brothels are for STDs. Sure you get sex, but is it worth it?

Thanks for the added input, guys!
I thought the purpose of the microtape was to keep water out of the dry verm layer when they are being sterilized. After I inoculate, I don't recover the holes with more.
p.s. - Nice signature you have there, magnum!

Oh that works for that too I s'pose, but I've never had a problem without it.
And yeah, it's badass
