a foaf wanted me to ask some questions 1) he was wondering if theres really any limit to how big you should make an outdoor bed? 2) is there a certin depth you should get it (I told him about 4-6 inches). 3) Hes lookin to go pretty big, maybe like 8feet by 16 feet, would that be to big?? 4) for anyone who has grown outdoors, how much of the bed fruited when they did it?? 5) will most cube strains work?? is there any certin ones people have like outdoors? 6) If he uses straw/dung mix, what are the chances of him getting fungi gnats in the dung? if you dont want to answer all the questions, its alright. He just gave me a list to throw out for people to respond on. I hope at least some will get answerd, Thnks alot MADDOG
there is no size limt's. Figure about a kilo of spawn to Sq foot of bed space. 4-6 inches of a mixture of leached manure and straw is a good substrate bed. Figure about a pound per sq foot. Any dung loving species, will work well in beds, there is no one strain. If any thing try to use the newer strains that haven't been domesticated long. Yes you will have to deal with insects, the best control Iv found is toads. They like the moist environs , all you need to do is give them a place to hide in the day time, a clay flower pot half buried on its side makes a good house as does a lose pile of rocks.
