using a pirated OS
    #13983574 - 02/18/11 09:12 AM (13 years, 16 days ago)

last night i pirated a windows xp pro that seemed to have all the drivers and passes wga.

i will be loading this onto a new computer that was just built, but im not sure if this pirate is 100%. all 30 comments were good accept one. the guy was saying that he needed a key which the uploader provided later in one of the comments.

ive never had to DL an OS let alone a pirated one. what do i need to do or watch out for? what if this copy is a bad copy and it wont fully do its job? can i go back with an actual one later and DL over the bad pirated version?

Im not sure what you are asking exactly.  I use pirated windows, and have for years.  Sometimes windows 'finds out' that its pirated and pops a bunch of warnings at you.  Sometimes you can fix this with a patch, sometimes you need a new installation.  Otherwise, I dont have much of a problem.

If yours doesnt work, I suggest reading carefully about the release you have and what is wrong.  And if that doesnt work, find a different release.

Yea, you can download a different release.  But unless you are just getting a different crack in that different release, you will need to do a complete reinstall.

What do you have to watch out for?

Most definitely backdoors.

A malicious hacker could add code that will open every computer that runs the OS up for him. This can be fairly innocent, or very severe, such as an attempt to steal your banking data etc.

Ask yourself, does it REALLY haveto be Windows for the purposes you want to run it for? If not, look into Ubuntu Linux.

Free to download and use the full version, VERY user friendly for people used to Windows.

If I didnt need Windows for the VR I'm involved with I would run nothing BUT Ubuntu.

Even if you're gonna go the copied route, by all means DL Ubuntu's latest version and install it. You can install it so that on startup you get the choice whether you want to run windows or Ubuntu, or any other number of things. This startup function (GRUB) alone is epic and reason enough to install it.

Plus, if your windows springs a leak you can ALWAYS use Ubuntu to get access to the whole computer, including Windows files thar mr Gates never allows you access to.  Ubuntu if handled well is next to IMMUNE to viruses, so you can salvage your stuff even if a virus prevents Windows to start.

i am going to do a dual boot, but i did not know that about these pirated copies. are there programs that can detect these back doors?

not as far as I know since the backdoor is built into the OS and not a piece of spyware.

I have more faith in the groups that release pirated windows than microsoft.  Regardless, they all use the same disc image - the windows disc image.  The only thing that is different is the crack/activator, and its not to hard to get one that is legitimate.

I think the fear being spread here is unwarranted.  As long as you are smart and dont google 'pirated windows' and download the first thing you will probably be fine.  Just make sure to get your crack/activator from a mainstream source.

I agree.

My pirated version of Win 7 Pro still receives official updates.

The only annoyance is there is a Windows Genuine Advantage thing that appears roughly every half year... but all I have to do is use a program to remove it and restart -- easy.

I have like 5 crack programs for my win 7 64bit ultimate.. just in case.. only had to use one. I've had it for a year now? no issues whatsoever.
Just don't install that one anti-piracy update - KB971033 - hide it, remove it, don't let it do anything.
But yeah 7 > XP

Nonsense. Plus if you got at least 4GB memory you want 64-bit....meaning you probably want 7. Not 64-bit XP...lolol

(PS - someone had suggested Ubuntu. If you want a Linux with ease of use, skip that and just get a version of Mint.) :2cents:

You have to restart your computer every half hour?
Damn, spend 90 bucks and buy a copy of win7 that would drive me bat shit insane.

@RP Yes I was using winxp pirated since day one. I recently got got win7 and it is much better. I also think winXp does not support Directx10 (unles there is a hack out).
Win7>WinXP
And I do play games

Nonsense. 7 is better in every way then XP.. if you are comparing XP and Vista then yeah, XP is better.
For Games, XP can support up to Directx9 - 7 can support to Directx11. 7 is better for games, by far.

While XP was a very good OS and is very stable.. it has driver issues and some compatibility issues with some more current hardware, not the best for cracking either.
7 has excellent automatic driver support, all the stability of XP with none of the problems and tons of improvements.
Plus as mentioned you probably won't be making full use of that 4GB of RAM if you are using XP 32bit...
32 bit OS will only utilize up to 3GB...  and XP 64bit well... sucks.
