LOL! hey they picked up a little but i think they are too dry for some reason.. could they be? how would i know? could i shoot some sterile water in there and wet em a bit? they are totaly dry lookin and shake around easily. i made my newer jars a couple different ways so i can find what works best.. they are a little moister than these.. i think im gonna try and make some kinda re usable filter for the next time i make my jars.. maybe using tyvek but idk yet its gotta look and work pretty legit and not be too fancy ya know... i really like the concept of the pp5 container but i hate these lids. the lids just dont seal..

Don't shake them anymore. You could try injecting them with a little sterile water. About 1 ml per jar. You don't want standing water in them.

Mason jars. They're great. I have 60 quart sized, and a bunch of other sizes, too.
Tyvek should not be used more than two or three times. It both begins to lose it's permeability AND becomes more likely to let in contams.
It's free from the post office, so I highly recommend using it. Considering its low cost to the consumer, I see no reason to not use fresh tyvek each time.
I drill 1/4" hole, stuff it with polyfil, and put 1-2 sheets of tyvek over that. They tyvek pushes against the polyfil, keeping it in place, and also adding another contamination barrier. So long as you have the SEALING RING FACING UP, these are the easiest lids in the world for things like G2G.
However, I think I'll start doing this, only I would make a self-healing injection port from RTV silicone.
I don't understand why people buy injection ports when better ones can be made with RTV silicone.
Oh, however - I should point out:
RTV silicone will not stick to plastic worth a damn!
So, use metal lids, kids, with the sealing-ring facing up.

That is because the two surfaces are super smooth. So much so that ...... FSLide = FFrict and the materials slip off of each other.
You can change this outcome if you rub the surface area you are going to make your injection port in with a piece of sandpaper lightly to scratch the surface up.
At this point Fslide ≠ Ffriction and the silicone stays in place
Then the RTV sticks like a motherfucker.
You just have to make sure you hit both sides with the sand paper.
I still don't like plastic lids for grains though they suck
They are good for LC's though if you plan on saving them for a while and don't want to have rust drip in them from the lid.......

yeh glass mason jars are cool i just dont like the fact that theyre glass cuz im kinda clumsy.. i think i might have something in mind for after im done with these.. i have 8 quarts made right now so when these are done ill start again new.. like i said its my first run at this and im making some mistakes. im sure ill get better as i go.. im thinking the newer jars will have just the right amount of moisture and they all got the ghetto filter on.. oh and i havent been shaking the jars i just know the jars are a little on the loose side and if i wanted i could lay it on its side and all the seeds would go to the side of the jar (which i havent done either) i just leave em alone.. i think maybe i caused it to colonize slow because i shook em after i inoculated.. i know (noob mistake) but i was reading a tek using a LC and i fucked it up.. which my newer jars are different.. did you ever have to trash a jar because it was too dry or will it still colonize just slowly? in my best jar the mycelium looks kinda dry even. it is spreading nice it seems and looks rhizomorphic with tiny intertwining threads crawling through the jar.. its day 15 and this jar is only less than a 1/4 done. im just bein impatient i just counted the days and it feels so much longer than that lol! ill probably wait till last resort on the water im scrrd man... once i have a fully colonized jar i think i might try to make the move to a homemade spawn bag of some sort.. my PC only holds 5 of these.. bags just look easier to me and id rather have 3-4 bags than 12-16 jars.. but ill cross that bridge when i get there i guess..

That didn't work for me. Maybe I wasn't rough enough.
It seems to me the metal wouldn't be anymore textured than smooth plastic, though, if we consider either surface sans abrasion.
Also, shouldn't the first equation be an inequality? Like, in regards to the plastic and silicone:
depending on what external forces are added into the vector quantities, The force of friction is less than or equal to the force of the slippy-slidey-ness?
I'm not sure, just thinking out loud, trying to figure out how to operationally define the annoying plastic/silicone situation.
I'm thinking the highest value for the friction would only equal the slippy-ness, and they stay in place due to suction. If the force from a syringe needle, for example, is added to the 'system,' you could say, the friction is now less than the slippy-ness, as there is now a pressure in the system, and maybe you could consider the needle pressure part of the slippidey-slip.
I guess the needle should be considered its own value, really. Even so, it seems to me, depending on the temperature of the room, the friction value should vary significantly enough, but not ever be higher than the force of the slip'n'slide.
Man, a friend recently bought me a copy of Understanding Physics by the great, late and powerful Isaac Asimov. That book would come in handy about now.

Yeah, I agree.
Soda lime/Mason jars are pretty durable. Even so, you gotta have at least some decent hand-eye coordination to do this stuff successfully.

Sorry, I know you're tired of being told what you're doing wrong, but this is also bad. Lysol is nasty to mycelium - the fumes from the wipes or spray can and will cause mutations or possibly wipe out the ability of the mushrooms to fruit at all. Lysol has no place near live mycelial cultures - do not use it any time the fumes can come in contact with them!
Look up 'lysol mutants' in the search for more info.
