Poor Mans Shotgun Fruiting Chamber

'(first grow). So I originally had constructed a Poor Mans Pod(PMP), due to the fact that I was under the impression that it was fully automated (no need for fanning or misting). But after a few conversations with experienced cultivators I came to find that the PMP performs better with fanning. Later, I came to find that the PMP is an out dated Fruiting Chamber. I was wondering if I could perhaps drill a bunch of holes in my PMP and create a "PMShotGunFC" so-to-speak. (please don't recommend just making a regular SGFC, it is not favorable for my situation)

if you have that set up then you can do a SGFC..just drill holes on all 6 sides, 2 inches apart..

Can't drill out the bottom. It sits on the floor under a table hidden, with hardly any vertical room for even the light. Stealth is key in my situation for now. Do you think that this will matter? I would assume that drilling out 5 sides is better than nothing...?

p.s. will drilling numerous holes compromise my humidity? (gotta figure things out as obviously I only have 2 cakes in there now, but soon its gonna be time to load that mo fo up. and I can't be having dry cakes, skinny stems, or meesley caps, I'm a perfectionist)

Damn. Thats what I was afraid of. I am often overloaded with school, and am not home frequently enough to tend that often.

Fresh air will cause evaporation inside your FC... which will cause high humidity... You mist to replace lost moisture...

i was using roughly the same thing. i think the pmp is good, however, you'll need some holes, but not as many as in a SGFC. (because theres additional fresh air (even water-filtered ) coming in thru the bottom. if you got enough water down in the perlite or lava rocks or whatever, the need for misting and fanning is, over all, quite marginal in my experience. so to put it all together: drill some holes (in the sides and the lid), mind the water in the bottom (you gotta refill some time, because evaporation), and you'll probably be fine. if you see the shrooms grow thin or with crappy caps you know that youll need more holes or start to fan/mist. at least that's what my experience was about. however, i'd recommend to elevate the FC, i think there's some consensus about FCs standing on low ground, but i'm not sure. just does feel better good luck and keep posted, ppl intend to help a lot, especially when you got pictures
oh and a question, u got a heater in the rocks? there's one cable. or is it for the digital display thingy?

You need some foil under those cakes.
Also dunk and roll.

Drill some Holes in the Bottom. If not, it is not a SGFC!

In the PMP page, it says that the cakes can be directly on the hydroton....

And you going the route your going, is not favorable for mushroom growth... A drip tray shouldnt raise your chamber by very little at all, and would allow for you to drill holes on the bottom.... Not drilling holes will lead to standing water, which will lead to contams...
If its that big of a deal, cut you 4 pieces of wood, to jack your table that you use to hide your projects up alittle bit...

I have bubble wands running 24-7 on an air pump rated for up to 55 gal. Will this still risk contams? Also, I was wondering if anyone knows if its preferable to have the cakes on lids or on the hydroton?

i think lids are the prefered way. i had one HUGE cake (3 cakes spawned to more verm with brf, because i had leftovers) which i, after some time, placed on the perlite without foil and it got too wet and eventually started to smell bad. therefore i'd go with the lids/foil. and i too want to know why or if stalled water in the perlite/lava rocks is prone to contamination. i noticed nothing, really. i mean theres nothing in it but perlite and air bubbles. those don't contam because there's no nutrients in it, i would've thought.

I would assume it's the air bubbles that keep it from going stagnant. Perlite has such large surface area that it retains plenty of water and air pockets which release and cause small bubbles that areate the water from what I've been reading.

p.s. godisanastronaut... did that cake (smelly one) end up being okay afterwards? I have raised them up onto their lids now btw, thanks for the warning.

no i tossed it later bc there were no fruits anyway. it was broken too (as i said, a large, flat cake) and merely an experiment which failed me
