hey guys and gals, hope everyone is getting excited for spring, it's right around the corner!

so, 3 years ago my dad and i found an excellent spot for black morels. there have been days when we've picked over 100 morels, and some where we'd pick 30, etc. its right off the dirt road about a mile and a half from my house, so i drive by it quite regularly.

in the past month the spot has been logged, and most of the huge white ash that the morels grow under have been cut down. there is a about foot and a half of snow on the ground, so it didn't get as torn up as it could have, had it been spring or summer, but it is still quite a mess.

i was wondering if anyone here has had the same thing happen to their morel patches, and if they recovered. any thoughts are appreciated.

more then likely you'll find them for  a few more seasons, as long as they didn't take ALL the tree's so there is still some shady area's or underbrush so its not direct sunlight

check back for a couple of years, From my studies there seems to be a connections with morels and recently dead trees.  supposedly the death of the trees affects the Mycorrhizal relationship of the tree/morel in a way the makes morels tend to flush.

sucks about your patch, but i'm sure there are many more around if you look!

who knows, once the mycelium recovers in a year or so we may be picking huge flushes. it's definitely going to have more sunlight than before, so we'll see how that effects it.

there are a few more patches around, so it's all good. i'll keep everyone posted in april, only two months until morel season!!
