Sorry - didn't read you let them sit after you PC'ed them. Just look at them, if the moisture content looks good, use them. Not sure what kind of lids you have, but after a month they might have dried out.

So you PC them and they are sitting in jars on your shelf for a month? Do they look like they are dried out.

I wouldn't be surprised if they stunk when you opened them.
If yeast grows in the them, PC'ing them will kill the yeast, but the alcohol will stay and keep anything from growing.
Imagine if you took a loaf of bread and just left it sit moist for a month. Rye spoils just as quick, and if the jars aren't moldy, it's probably because yeast got to them first.
Did you at least refrigerate them? Boiling the rye would kill most the bacteria on it, but I can't believe that that's all it would take to get them to keep a whole month.

I got 150 lbs for $60.30 delivered.
If you are in an area covered by azurestandard.com then give them a look.
Take care,

I've heard of people buying some kind of rye from feed/tractor supply-typed stores. When ever I ask about huge bags of rye grains (no not rye grass seed), they always know something is up

I can get rye 10$ for a 50 pound bag. Trick is find a small, locally owned feed store.
If your really worried about the feed store 'knowing somethings up', it might help to know that rye berries can also be used in brewing beer (and whiskey if you have a still) Don't just volunteer this, but when you ask for 'untreated', or if they ask why you need them, just say you got a recipe for beer and it calls for them.
Stores aren't cops. When you go to the Arab store and buy a glass flower, choir boy and three lighters, he 'knows whats up' - doesn't mean he gives a shit.
