The war in Iraq, America's newest reality TV series.
    #1397541 - 03/21/03 08:01 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

With play by play commentating of the war, how do you think America's perspective on war will change? This live telecast might allow America to see war as people in 3rd world countries have for years, or will this lead to a compassionate mentality among Americans, or will this simply turn into another reality series?

the coverage is all sanitized bullshit. it's really disgusting. the reporters are more like actors than journalists.

I want more coverage, less inane talking. As I scroll through the news I hear nonstop talking about "Is that really Saddam on the videotape" "Those bombs cost a million dollars each" "Our forces are more powerful than in 1991" etc. Boring!

Canadian news is showing more footage, but its still overrun with babbling experts.

I agree, it's the ultimate reality series. What could be more exciting then watching people get shot and killed? Then they are gonna interview the soldiers and ask them how it feels to pull that trigger, etc, etc........ in the end, its gonna come out that war is a glamourous event. Just today in the paper one headline said "There is wierd sense of excitement in the air" and this one is my favourite "Are humans hardwired to be violent?". That's like saying we have no choice to kill because of our genes, so might as well do it with a smile. Ack I say, ack!

I wouldnt call it "reality" TV. This is all heavily monitored and controlled at its best and prefrabricated bunk at its worst.

I know a guy who used to be an army reporter and he said that if he saw something happen, he would videotape it. If the mainstream media didn't get the scoop on it, then he would destroy the tape and the military would act like it never happened. If some mainstream news reporter did find out about it and report on it, he would send the tape in to show the military's version of what happened.
