Another Blue Oyster Straw Bucket

I've got 2 blue oyster straw buckets that were inoculated with WBS a couple weeks ago. Put into fruiting 4 days ago with some very small visible pins.
BAM!

Updates to come. Not sure whats up with the pins with the brown caps. Could be the water drops on them...
Update:
Well, I got busy and forgot to take progression pics. But here are some photos right before harvest.
Bucket #1

Bucket #2, a couple days before harvest

Bucket #1, 2nd Flush

I didn't get pics right before harvest, but I let them go a couple more days after that last picture was taken.

How long does it take to consolidate the bucket and then fruit? Are you using straight straw with grain spawn?

It took about 2 weeks for the buckets to colonize, maybe a little faster. Takes about a week / week and a half to fruit. Yes I used unsupplemented rice straw spawned with 2 quarts WBS per bucket.

As always nice work pitcher! I cannot wait to get some spring time outdoor oysters going, you are going to have to share your pickling method with me so I can save any excess fruits!
Kind of off topic but what do you think about making spicy pickled oysters? I plan to have a lot of different variety's of hot peppers going this summer, so might play with adding fresh sliced jalapenos to pickle with the oysters!
Thanks for sharing!

No the brown ones aborted. I'm almost 100% sure they got that way because of water on them as they were pinning.

Pepper, for my substrate I used un-supplemented WBS for the spawn, and un-supplemented rice straw for the fruiting substrate. Used a bit over 2 quarts spawn per 5 gallon bucket. I think they could have done better had I supplemented the straw, but I was working with what I had.

Ummm... something like 5. The first bucket is just starting to pin for a second flush so I'll let you know exactly in a few days.

Those look awesome. I really need to find some straw. You'd think that would be easy with all the horses around here, but all I can ever find for sale is overpriced hay.

What kind of yields did you get PitcherCrab? They look great. So looks like no spraying during pinning with these guys eh? Great pictures as well. thanks

So, 5 days from pin to harvest. As for yields I didn't actually weigh them. I'd think I got about 2 lbs per flush. I'll weigh the 2nd flush that should be coming in soon from the 2nd bucket. The 1st bucket's 2nd flush actually ended up being bigger than the 1st flush. I sprayed a little bit during pinning, but only on the walls of the GH and not directly on the pins.

Sounds like a respectable yield. 5 days? Very nice. Do you just spray water or do you use water with anything like peroxide?

Do you have any linkage that sheds more light on the bucket tek? I am curious about substrate volume and densities (basically how much chopping and packing is required) as well as hole sizing and spacing.
