I Used to love dubstep

When that shit first came out it was personally life changing for about a year but great for 4 or 5. I genuinely believed it would have major longevity. Now the college radio stations stopped playing so much DnB and now they play dubstep all the time. Fuckin lame ass college kids always come up to me asking if i know about datsik and saying how awesome dubstep is. I might agree with such a statement when dubstep was awesome, but now it's goddamn terrible and it breaks my heart. How does something go from underground sensation to immediately hella generic and overplayed? Terence Mckenna was right, we is all gonna die.

There should really be a distiniction in genre between good dubstep (typically with other genre elements) and shitty dubstep which what the majority of dubstep fans like. Clearly its not all the same music, so why should it all be chucked into the same genre?

Because the overall creativeness has pretty much gone out the window. It's like the people who were artistic with it from the start continue to be and venture out into other genres of electronic music. That's like 5 or 6 producers out of hundreds of brosteppers. Look at those two clowns Skream & Rusko, two former Og's of the scene are horrid now.

I never really cared about 'the scene'. All i know is that there is still good dubstep out there or at least semi-dubstep. The fact that its relatively underground does not really concern me since i can download it just as easily.

I agree to a certain extent...It has most definitely blown up, and gone "mainstream". As a result there's a whole shit load of generic sounding shit out there.
Doesn't mean there isn't still good music being made. This genre is quite diverse and there's so many different sounds and styles emerging from it. Unfortunately most people think it's all about the "filth" & hard hitting tunes, and that's generally the impression people get when dubstep is brought up...
Like always, lots of people only hear the mainstream sounds of a genre...Doesn't mean there isn't good music being produced...
And there are still plenty of underground "bass music" parties out there. Keep your ear to the ground eh'...
Good dubstep still exists...

actually because of the flood of dubstep threads over 2010. I started to listen to what other's were listening to and then i realized it was mostly garbage. I had no clue it had gotten so bad. Slowly but surely i stopped mixing and eventually stopped producing. Not only that, but i started to notice the crowds changing at shows it went from a mix of normal people, to emo kids and bros.

Haha...I too have noticed the crowd changing a wee bit over the years. It's becoming a little more diverse, but the so called "scene" and parties I associate my self with is generally a crowd of hippies, burners and folk of that sort (not to stereotype).
Leather, feathers, and fire rather than candy and glow-sticks.
Always thought it was interesting how the crowd associated with a certain genre can be very diverse and different depending on where you are...

Haha. This happens with just about any "underground" genre of music; it gets more popular. If you regard it as "good music" what do you expect? Just continue listening to what you like and ignore the rest.

Remix knows whats up. I picked up Dubstep several years ago as well, back when it was still underground, and really good. I tried getting my friends to listen to it, but only a couple of them really enjoyed it. After a while, I noticed shittier and shittier tracks being pumped out left and right, and more and more people started picking it up.
"Have you heard Rusko's new track man? Derp, derp, derp, filthy dubstep bro!" I was pissed at first, but then I realized that these "Brosteppers" and idiots had no taste in music whatsoever, and didn't know what true Dubstep was.
So my advice to you, If you still enjoy Dubstep that is, is to just ignore them and their shitty music, and enjoy your music. There are still good artists out there, you just have to dig through all the shit to get to the good stuff.

It's what happens when something is packaged for mass appeal.
It loses it's character and becomes watered down garbage.
(misnomer: I've never cared for dubstep, but it has gotten especially bad as of late)

well, anyways... you can provide any critical viewpoint. i mean, i already know that i basically haven't worked on more then three backgrounds, split apart... didn't even have a beginning; didn't have any mastering cause i literally didn't work on that for more then half an hour on reason... it kinda has no real back bone yet other then what i worked out by the end... which is probably going to be a base for the song.
but you don't think any of the instruments or percussion sounded any good either?

I happen to agree with your assessment of the situation 120%. Shit was revolutionary when it first came on the scene. Now it's just a bunch of watered-down joker clowns all copying each other on the exact same hook 50 billion times in a row, no creativity whatsoever. There are still some good artists out there, but it's like a needle in a fucking haystack, And that doesn't stop the brostepper fanbois from crawling out the woodwork and saying DUBSTEP RULZ BRAH U JUS DONT KNO WHAT GOOD DUBSTEP IS

just practice. and dont think that bc i have a strong opinion on the matter that im worthy of critiquing your material. i was kinda rude about it and i apologize. honestly any questions you have about producing someone has already made a youtube video showing you how to do it, hell that's how i learned. that and practice. just spend time with whatever tools you are using and you'll become proficient before you know it.

I like the Acid bass line that comes in, Akira. The song sounds more like some oldschool acid house than anything else to me. The intro is cool, but I would drop with a heavier kick drum after four measures. Did you put a HPF or some kind of BPF on the kick drum? Because it's pretty high frequencies for a kick. The song overall definitely needs some EQing, but I like what I hear so far, and it has lots of potential.
Are you using only Reason? If you want some help with compression and EQing I'd be willing to give you a hand

Now it's just a bunch of watered-down joker clowns all copying each other on the exact same hook 50 billion times in a row, no creativity whatsoever. There are still some good artists out there, but it's like a needle in a fucking haystack, And that doesn't stop the brostepper fanbois from crawling out the woodwork and saying DUBSTEP RULZ BRAH U JUS DONT KNO WHAT GOOD DUBSTEP IS
this is a recurring problem in music, especially electronic music. Def. not just centered around dubstep

Rabidbaboon said: I like the Acid bass line that comes in, Akira. The song sounds more like some oldschool acid house than anything else to me. The intro is cool, but I would drop with a heavier kick drum after four measures. Did you put a HPF or some kind of BPF on the kick drum? Because it's pretty high frequencies for a kick. The song overall definitely needs some EQing, but I like what I hear so far, and it has lots of potential.
thanks alot man! yeah, i see waht you mean about the bass drum, i sorta don't have the ability to make my use my own samples (no recorder) so i don't really think about which of the "reason samples" i am using, until i have a more focused idea of waht the song is to sound like... but this is exactly why i need imput, like this.

Are you using only Reason? If you want some help with compression and EQing I'd be willing to give you a hand
yeah... only reason for now. and thanks for the offer, if i had a better idea for this track or more to it, i'd say for sure... but i have not really... finished anything... reallly....
so maybe if and when i get something finished, i might hold you up on your offer.

Yeah, send me a completed product and a track to Master to and I'll EQ it as best as I can.
Also, I would highly highly recommend you look into the VST(plugin) called Battery by native instruments. The drum samples that come with reason are shameful. At the very least download some drum packs.
