Noob Grower questions- PF tek

Although these questions have likely been answered on the sight, i wanted to make a thread tailor made for my situation:
I posted earlier about a PF tek with a few mods, but after watching the updated PF tek on this link ---> http://www.shroomery.org/11432/Lets-Grow-Mushrooms-Pf-tek-videos i have decided to follow it to the tee. K.I.S.S
Although this video is very informative, i do have a few questions: -I was planning on using a PC, but it says its unnecessary, is this entirely true? m willing to spend the money to decrease contams if it will decrease the chances of them. -When dunking and soaking, should the water be decontammed via boiling prior to birthing and dunking?? -He also handles the cakes a lot with his hands, is there no chance of contams at this stage? -If the answer to the above question is yes, then this is irrelevant- but with the verm rolled onto the cakes, how can u spot a contam? -Final question, when misting, should u continue to mist once fruiting begins, i ask because i heard that this is equivalent to having thousands of gallons dumped on your head to the fungi.

If u r willing to buy a pc then go get one trust me..
i have dunked and soked with just tap water if u want buy distiled and use that..
it is fine to handle the cakes with ur hands after they r fully colonized just b clean about it wash ur hands whatever..
if u get a contam u will kno,, brusing will happen if u handle them its fine.. a fully colonized cake will fight off contans to a sertin point..
and try not to mist directly onto a fruit mist around the cake.

So when misting while mushrooms are growing i gotta be careful to not wet the mushrooms but to mist around them?...that seems hard to do honestly. There's gonna be tons of mushrooms in my FC

i mist my cakes and mushrooms. i just make sure to hold the spray bottle about 2 feet away. this makes a super fine mist fall over everything then i fan vigorously. the fine water droplets with evaporate off of everything

1)No 2)No. Just clean your hands. Fully colonized cakes are pretty resistant to contaminants. 3)See above. 4) Mist and fan at least 3 times a day. Mushrooms are 90% water. They love it.

Great info everyone, this makes me feel a lot more confident. Is a drip shield worth throwing in?? And perhaps the ultrasonic will come later, im trying to keep it simple for my first try, although the temptations to elaborate this are strong (you should read my post on my initial terrarium layout) lol i went a lil overboard. And im not bothering with the pc i think its overkill for PF tek if u boil with tight lid for 90 mins.
Im a very meticulous person and have a very solid set up in mind for inoculation (sterile room, and glove box along with all other PF recommendations) knowing this, what do u suppose my chances are at being successful first try? And what kind of yield could i expect from 5 1/2 pt. cakes? Again, this is just curious speculation!
Cant wait for my syringes to come in!!!

drip sheild is old out dating info..mist your cakes / substrate directly..just dont over saturate and mist them too hard and you'll be fine.

Yes, it is true.
Im willing to spend the money to decrease contams if it will decrease the chances of them. -When dunking and soaking, should the water be decontammed via boiling prior to birthing and dunking??
I use tap water.
-He also handles the cakes a lot with his hands, is there no chance of contams at this stage?
Be clean. Use hand sanitizer and a mild bleach solution if you can. Gloves are great, but overkill IME
-If the answer to the above question is yes, then this is irrelevant- but with the verm rolled onto the cakes, how can u spot a contam?
You'll know it when you see it.
-Final question, when misting, should u continue to mist once fruiting begins, i ask because i heard that this is equivalent to having thousands of gallons dumped on your head to the fungi.
Yes, but mist lightly on pins. I like to saturate the parts without pins on them.

just want to add
if you're willing to go purchase a PC then i would go ahead and do so..
it'll lower the risk of contams, plus if you plan on staying in this hobby you're going to need a PC in the future anyway so might as well go ahead and get one..

Will definitely consider depending on my money situation, they arent cheap for a poor college student

A regular pot with a good lid is fine.
It has proven to be really good for me over the years.
