So I just called the State Police and had them do a police back round check. They said my record is clean. I had them do an FBI back round check. They said my record is clean.
My concern is that soon I will be processing for the military. I wonder if their FBI back round checks are the same as the one I just got. Is there anywhere I can get another optional FBI back round check?
I want to apply for the Navy's rescue diver program or the navy diver program and I know they require a security clearance.
hmmm..
Any input?

It really depends on the situation of the charge. If I were you, I would bring those papers to the navy recruiting office so when they ask have you ever been charged, you can show them that your record is clear... so if they end up finding something, you can plead ignorance because of those records. In general, the military can find out EVERYTHING about your past records... But if there is no record of you from the police files and FBI files, you should be fine.
I would definitely look further into this though... I have known people who got kicked out of the military for not being completely honest about past records. Maybe you should as a lawyer or something to be safe.

I like dan's advice: namely, bringing those papers with you.

There are multiple levels of security clearance that need to be maintained for different positions. Often times, these levels are numbered for references (e.g. "Security level IV").
As you'd expect, the intensity of the background check changes. These can be things like adding fingerprints, providing references, and or regular polygraphs.
It's reasonable and normal to ask about the procedures for ANY job.
EDIT: I can tell you that a moderate intensity check was NOT performed on you, because it isn't something you just call your local office about.

Wait, can I call and see if they're watching me or something? That would be cool to know. I figure I'm on some list somewhere because of the Shroomery. I guess they wouldn't tell me if I was though.

The charges that would disqualify me are a felony and a misdemonor. The thing is that they were withdrawn. I never went to court, never paid fines, and never served probation. They were thrown out, but the Navy doesnt care. They look at it as GUILTY. But since I expunged it they cant see it so the recruiters are sending me in.
