You're quite intelligent, but just be careful not to fire off too many thoughts and associations between those thoughts into that blind mental space in there. I'm very guilty of doing that. It amounts to 'mental masturbation', and it can be very unhelpful at times, making you think you are progressing somewhere psychologically or philosophically when in fact you're not.

The only real progress you can make is to become selfless and rest in Tao.

Fuckin A! lol man that gave me a good chuckle.

*Good advice here.

Remember OP to just try and see that the abstractions and ideas about who you are  (you have many!) mostly don't reflect reality.  They're just ideas, thoughts.  Don't believe all that shit.    They only reveal your thinking patters and I can see pretty well where some of your hiccups are and its that you're grasping a lot!  And if there is truth in some of the things you do such as some of your empathetic habits (I also share some of that,  I don't like 'winning' and I don't like to see people down or lose at my expense kinda thing), learn to accept that you have a soft heart but don't take yourself too seriously in this respect.  If you notice it arise in you, just let it go.  If it's useful, keep it up, but if its a hindrance, then ignore it.

It sounds like you're just a very self-conscious person (like myself) and you are now suffering your self-consciousness.

I'm personally working to snap out of it, and really one legitimate way, like circastes says, is to become selfless.  Drop all the notions you have of yourself and just be.  If you're gonna face your fears, then do it and keep your cool, don't let the sensations take hold of you and tell you who you are.  You are beyond that.
