Possible Pin's?

So my friend just start getting into mushroom cultivation, and has yet to have his first harvest, although it has been only about a months time sence the start of this fun project, my firend still has yet to see something that he can clearly point out to be a mushroom. Anyway, to make a very long story short, he recently made some PF-Tek cakes which worked out great. Now he told me that he can see things coming off the cakes that look similar to a pin, atleast from what he has seen in pictures. Only they are not very large around or in height, and also have no caps. They sit about 1CM high and look farily strong, for example they dont just look like a slim little hair growing off. Anyway the question here is does this sound like the start of pinning or not? And also if this does sound like the start of pinning, my friend noticed them about 48 hours ago, so how long can it take for them to make a cap?

I think if your friend is patient and give it a couple more days he will see a considerable amout of progress. I believe what you are describing is the progress of shrooms.
