I get the same way, but I very seldom make it known what kind of path I'm on. It's more fun to allow them to discover it. The reactions you are getting, seem to be so much better then mine. People seem to be scared of me. Think i'm crazy (which I probably am). It's a pretty simple answer, one that my counselor gave me actually. Society is very closeminded, if it doesn't exist in the societal norm, it is instantly labeled for prejudice and misunderstanding, and sometimes fearful. The people who make fun of you, you should take no offense too, because chances are, they know nothing of what you believe in. I am also interested in the Wicca contains, I don't know much about it, but I fully respect the path you're on. I have a feeling it may be similar to mine. As long as it enriches your life, and makes you happy, don't let the opinions of others affect you, you will meet those people who will test your devotion and strength in the journey you are on. It happens all the time, but once you really start casting away your own doubts, you will find that those people will slowly go away. And more beautiful, embracing people will come into your life. Good luck!

- How old are you ?
- Are you male or female ?
- Do you consider yourself attractive ?
- Do others consider you attractive ?
- Why do you wear a pentagram ? If related to magic, would you care to explain the connection ?
- What kind of people make fun of you ? Are they mostly male or female ?
- What kind of clothing do you wear in public ? Is it different from what you wear on a comfortable evening at home ?
- What kind of music do you listen to and do you listen to it in public ?
- How would you sum up your social life, apart from the apparent hostility from certain people ?
i have some more , but i don't wanna type it out until i see you answering some of these.

but rest assured, i will provide a remedy. teh d0c7or is in the building.

I wear a pentagram because I feel a connection to the earth. It's very important to me.
Its called gravity man .
If your talking about spirituality I haven't come across any information on the connection between a pentagram and Gaia (if you mean Gaia of course). Your offended when people call you a satanist, but you wear a pentagram? Tell me you see the irony here. I understand that it hurts to be made fun of. People are like that. I tend to let people hurt me way too much, because I ignore why their doing it. They make assumptions that all of it is bullshit without reading it. They don't understand why people read such literature. Then they come up with a rationalization like that dude believes he can fly. Of course they don't doubt that their wrong and start accusing that person of what their perception tells them. Some people just take spirituality and mysticism too literally and discard it, without trying to grasp how it correlates with reality. If your interested in it I urge you to start reading more and spend more time in the Spirituality & Mysticism forum. Use the Shroomeries search button to find good books on the subject. Some people seem to write stuff that misinforms others though. So be careful who your getting information from. The Shroomery mostly only has good suggestions.

I think Epno hit the nail on the head. Most current surveys put the percentage of Christians in America at about 76%. Adding Jews that's getting near 80%. While it's not overly emphasized in the Bible, the Biblical take on witches and pagans is greatly expounded in churches, the media, and, to some degree, government, albeit subtlety in the last one. So, with 75-80% of people, along with media and churches, following this ideal, it's ingrained in society itself to be slanted against anything "pagan".
imho, most people, being members of said society, are frightened or put on the defense by Wicca before they realize just what it is, and ridicule it after they do, as it's not a real or serious as their religion (sense the sarcasm here?), or, by extension, culture.
That's my take on it anyway. It's hard (impossible) to fully realize why people do certain things or act certain ways. For example, my explanation leaves out militant* atheists, whose rational is likely radically different from the above reason.
*"militant atheists" is Richard Dawkins' term to describe aggressively anti-religious atheists.

To me the hilarity is that the Christian religion borrows HEAVILY from the pagan religion...
Have you ever been to a midnight mass?
The ritual they perform for "father son and holy spirit" is near IDENTICAL to the Great Rite, except the knife doesn't plunge into the cup (no sex in religion haha!).
Every little piece of modern religious culture was taken from pagan rituals and holidays and beliefs, so I always find it hilarious when someone questions my spirituality or my modes of practice/worship.
I take it in stride.
My favorite is the idea of the 'holy ghost/spirit' which is really just the female aspect. It should be Father Mother and Son, but the Magdeline of Christianity has been "edited" out of most of the records to further the male dominance.
Hilarious, intriguing and also disturbing.
this is a great read on the subject if you have any interest in such things, or gemmatria which is a whole 'other 'beast'

Maybe it's just you. Maybe people think you're a douche.
No, I've heard people say that witchcraft is a 'sin' and 'against the lord's will'. Ever heard of the witch burning in the 1800s? Same concept.
Most of the executions occurred during "the burning times," approximately 1560-1660 CE, not in the 1800s. Salem, Massachusetts, the only real witch persecution in the Americas hanged 19 people, and crushed one Giles Corey to death. Wiccans remain in the Qabalistic sphere of Yespd - dreams, magick, sexuality, unconscious, the psychic sphere. While Wicca does have redes, like 'And Harm ye none, do what thou wilt,' but it isn't a religion designed for transcendence and higher development (Qabalistically speaking). Wicca embraces nature in its forces and cycles, but it really isn't about identification with higher, more inclusive levels of mind, soul, spirit or however one wants to call greater subtleties of consciousness. Even though the majority of Christians, Jews, Muslims, or Hindus pay lip service to transcendence, the religions do include contemplation of mystically-known realities, nevertheless. At best, a nature-mysticism tops out Wicca - a recognition of one's unity with ecosystems; with birth, initiations, death, rebirth cycles, and a kind of materialistic monism, divided dualistically into God and Goddess symbolism. Wicca embraces people just the way they are individually. The God and Goddess doe not provide an ideal like Jesus does for Christians to develop into. This fact alone can reap ridicule from all those intolerant, unloving, judgemental 'Christians' like the one's who initiated the witch hunts of the past. As if "the natural man" (St. Paul) wasn't bad enough (as opposed to "the spiritual man"), the so-called Christian bigot is the demonic man.

do you expect everyone to understand or care what it means if it's upside down or not?
they see a pentagram-shaped object, and relate it to satan. Being open minded works both ways - you should try to be more understanding of them.

People make fun of you because you practice witchcraft and magic. when you believe crazy stuff people will call you crazy. get used to it or stop doing it.
I suggest not following any cults/religions, they are for people who can't think for themselves.

It's a religion, just like Judaism, Christianity, Catholicism, etc.
It deeply upsets me when people call me a 'Satanist' or an insane witch.
Why is society so prejudiced against Wicca?
Oppression unfortunately will always be present, my friend.
I converted to Hinduism, and most of my homies are black or mexicans, which means they're either baptist or catholic (although mixed with animism with some of them)...so you can guess how that shit carried over with them.
My advice: stay strong. NEVER CHANGE YOUR BELIEFS FOR ANYONE!!! you believe what you do because it makes sense to you. If someone makes you believe in something else, that isn't you believing in something else...just you succumbing to pressure and hiding your true beliefs.
Be yourself. Don't be so weird that it bothers everyone else, but at the same token, be proud of who you are and stand firm.

I hate to tell you that a Pentagram is a good thing in my openion, and I worship God, and Jesus is my Savior, but everyone's openion differs. But Yea you might want to lay off from wearing it around you neck, and I doubt I would do it either. That doesn't mean your fellings of significance of the Pentagram has to change. I also thought it was an evil symbol until here recently also. Peace & Love

Sounds like another case of an individual being upset that their particular nuanced take on religion/belief system X isn't perceived as such, and is thus being generalized.
This is your cue to start your own religion.
