Delimma, the Pub can decide
    #13969192 - 02/15/11 05:57 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

friday I'm supposed to go on a field trip with my daughter and her class to the Ringling Bros. Circus in Atlanta, they have a new kid in class who didnt arrive in time to get a ticket, tickets for the section they'll be in are about $80 (discounted for the school to $15) so picking up another ticket at the last minute is out of the question, apparently I'm the only parent attending this field trip, took a day from work to make it

My daughter want's me to go, I want to go but I also dont want to see this
kid get left out of his first and probably the best field trip at this school
because they'll get all access, meet the performers, see the animals up close
and even get to try on costumes and stuff
should Pris make his kid happy or make a stranger happy
You may choose only one

i'd let the kid go, but that's just because it wouldn't matter to me either way. i'm lazy, so i'd perfer the day off work to just chill.

then again, i'm not a parent. so you gotta go with your gut on this one man.

Do whats right. Your daughter will understand later on. Maybe she can have the new kid sit next to her, and she can get him included with the group!

good luck.

split the cost of the ticket with that kid's parents, if they don't want to throw down 40 bucks on their kid, you shouldn't throw down 80 for their kid...

What grade is it? and how many kids are going when you say class?

I'm leaning toward you going though.  This is one of those treasured moments.  I remember going with my dad to the circus when I was little.

I got a discounted ticket so it's not costing me $80 if I go, if I give the kid the ticket I'm out less than $20

I have the same memories, I saw ringling brothers when I was about her age
with my dad, one of the few memories I have of the bastard, she certainly
wants me to go. while I do a great deal of stuff with my kids it's unlikely
I'll be getting the chance for some time given how scarce work is right now

I would give the ticket to the other kid, but definitely make sure to sit down with your daughter and explain it/perhaps plan another date to go to the circus together, and tell her that it will be just you two. Might take some sugar coating to keep her from getting upset, she might not fully understand the situation.

I think you might avoid some flak from the other kid's parents, they might think you're being an asshole going to the circus in place of a kindergartener, even if it's for your own daughter, in my experience other parents tend to be quite blind to that kind of situation, if it's their kid at a disadvantage they tend to get really protective.

I would offer to let the kid go. It isn't the poor kIds fault he can't go. Make his week and let him have fun with his new classmates. Could end up being good friends with your daughter. I vote for compassion.

for money I work construction, most of what I make goes into maintaining a
farm and currently work is very scarce and all I'm getting is small jobs
and sometimes it's months between, like I said, this opportunity may not
come around again for some time

I could really give two shits about the other kid's parents and what they
may say, isnt it their responsibility to spring for $80 on a last minute
ticket if they want their kid to go? I dont know these people, never met
them, they just moved to this town so to me they still dont exist and for
all I know they're wealthy and can afford the $285 ticket for their kid

Just have the kid watch all the free TV in your house during that time.

Pris.  If you have the means to make that kids day without putting yourself in a financial predicament - i know you'll do the "right" thing.  I put it in quotes because its only the "right" thing in my book ---- but you know that this kid will have so much more fun w/ that $80 then you ever could paying bills.  Especially if he's new.

Being the new kid is hard enough (i moved in 3rd grade) - but being left out of hte field-trip-of-the-year is even more tough.  hard as fuck to make friends.

Seems like the teachers are trying to gain leverage on you. I say go anyway.  The school can rally some money for the kid to go or something.

You're already out the day of work, and you promised your daughter.

More will probably develop in the next few days anyway.

Just keep your plans of going.  Share your favorite attraction with her and bring it up later in life.  My father enjoyed the unicyclist clown. Then in the 7th grade he got me a unicycle and I remembered that trip and all my angst melted away that summer.  The circus is awesome.

If you have to choose between going with your daughter and letting that other kid go you should definitely go with your daughter. If she said she wants you to go and you've already bought a ticket for it you need to go with her!

shroomery "send a little kid to the circus fund?" some donate to help fight lawyer costs. I think if a drug website raises money to send kids to the circus people would be more accepting of us.

What's the point of the boy scouts and eagle scout stuff? My friend showed me this gold card and was like "...Chyea, I'm an eagle scout"

Said it was just fun and learning stuff but does it do anything for you? Do you get like a discount at macy's at least?

Help me get jobs when I was younger.  Made a lot of good friends and memories too.

Most Eagle Scouts I meet aren't the most straight edge people, but we have a certain character.  When I was younger I was fascinated with the "Astronauts" and "World Leaders" who received the rank.

Anyway, I was using it as lean for Pris to go to the circus with his daughter. I seriously want to know how this worked out.

I'd be less than surprised if you were able to talk your way into the circus after giving your ticket away..

I have FINALLY written up a couple teks as to how SHP has done things in the past. DISCLAIMER: This is not for the newbie to mycology, and not going to work for everyone! This is simply what works for one person when other teks and methods have failed miserably!
~~~~~How SHP does their unconventional WBS Prep!! (NO DRY METHOD)~~~~
