How do people feel good about having birds as pets and leaving them in a cage?

This goes for fish as well (which I did have as a kid, wouldn't now) and other pets. And even fish they could still swim around. Birds have the ability to fly wherever they want in the world and are stuck in a cage. This is alright with these people?

I have a bird. It's back at my parents' house though and we keep the cage door open so it can fly around wherever inside and a lot of times it just chooses to chill on my shoulder anyway. I'm not letting it outside though that's for sure.

Never been much of a bird man. I do enjoy my couple of fish and several tarantulas though. I never felt sorry for my fish since I keep them pretty happy. Nice filter, a heater, and frequent water changes and they all seem to enjoy the tank. The tarantulas (mostly slings) are kept in Tupperware with holes in them with my one adult being kept in a 5 gallon glass aquarium. Too much room actually stresses them out since they have poor eye sight.

They also feed it, and give it water, and make sure the environment it clean and livable, and protect them from predators.  People provide birds with a lot more than they take from them.

That applies to animals such as cats and dogs. I really don't see how keeping them from soaring in the sky is a benefit.

I think it'd be better to keep a bird for a little while, take care of it, have a bird feeder outside, etc., then let it go if it wants to. If it enjoyed it's time at the home then it'll come back/stay.

That always been a problem with me. I dont like it one bit, nor do I like the fact that people keep fish, can only swim in a small confined area.
