Good idea though, selling to someone who recently caught a felony would be extremely foolish.  You could screen out the ones who got popped and then try to set up someone else to get a reduced charge.  Which would screen out 98% of all informants.

Also, your friends probably don't mind if you take their picture but an informant/fed/robber would have a very serious issue with that.  A camera could be used as a psychological ploy, you pull it out, start playing with it and explain that its new and you are trying to learn all the settings, snap a couple innocent pics of them in a nonthreatening way and watch carefully how they react.    If they flip the fuck out, become agitated and start screaming, give them some excuse to leave (omg I just lost the drugs, can't find them anywhere) and never sell to them or meet with them again.

Another thing, an informant/robber/cop will not want you to know where they live.  If they invite you into their room and it is clear that they really live there, they are much less likely to rat you out than some informant who claims to live in her car and always shows up at your place.  You can show up unannounced to verify that they really live in the place they want you to think they live.  Ring their doorbell and tell them your car overheated and you wanted to chill for a minute.

If someone has not been busted recently and they let you take their picture and you know where they live, the chances of them being a good honest customer are very high indeed.

When making a controlled buy, they will record what you say.  You could frisk your customer to find the recorder, but that would be impolite.  You could instead use electronic means to see if there is a recorder - All electronic devices emit radio waves and can be detected with a spectrum analyzer.  Invite them over, act excited about this really cool new spectrum analyzer you got as a toy, and give them a quick demo on how to use it.  Point the antenna at various devices like clock radios, computers and cell phones.  If you notice any radio waves coming from their person, say "Hey there is something really interesting and different coming from your backpack!  Lets find out what it is, I have never seen a device emit a signal like that before!  If it is just a pager or something innocent they will want to know what it is too and will help you find it.  If it is a recording device they will get extremely angry at you and begin cursing your electronics hobby, at which point you tell them that you lost the drugs and will call them as soon as they turn up.

I don't think checking court records would be particularly helpful in detecting snitches. I don't know how quickly those records show up, but don't informants usually snitch quickly, before they start having court dates in hopes of staying out of the court system entirely or atleast getting brought up on lesser charges?

The camera idea sounds like the best one so far...

when someone gets charged it is posted almost immediately..

then once they snitch it gets null processed, or dismissed, but the status will show that as well, and is a good indication if the person took a deal, or plea..

somebody posted something about planting drugs on somebody, and if you "see them out, then they're a snitch".  This is NOT true, people, never think this, this is what got people thinking the worst about me when I was snatched by the police, and I've never ratted on anyone or tried to push any charges on anybody in my life.

There is something called bail/bond, some people CAN and DO bail out of jail, if their drug charges are serious, they'll be held for a week for an A felony like I was, before I was able to bond out, if not, usually the next day..but it's not polite to go around calling somebody a snitch just because they were smart enough to save bond money while committing their crimes!

Just some game for some people who don't realize how things work.

I know they have a device that can tell you if some one's wearing a wire. It looks like a beeper and if some one walks in with a wire on you get a beep telling you.
It wont tell you exactly who if there's multiple people though, and I'm sure it's not cheap.

But at least you wont have to wand people down with some weird gadget, plus I doubt a spectrum analyzer is cheap too

Don't do business or associate with bitch ass motherfuckers who will trade your life for their freedom when they fucked up.

Only deal with people who are respectable, responsible, and who you'd trust your life with.

Family and family contacts are the best way.  Keep shit close.

I don't deal with people I haven't known for years.  Every new face is the police.

Long, unkempt dreadlocks on an otherwise well-put together individual make my eyes open up wide.  I find these people to be quite respectable and real.  Rasta folk tend to be more morals-oriented than other "regular" people.  The longer the dreadlocks, the longer the commitment to the life.

By no means a 1 for 1, but you'll find a greater percentage of real folk who will do their time in the rasta community than in others.

That may be a device just looks for nearby radio transmitters.  It would be prone to false positives and false negatives.  A nearby cell phone call could create a false positive and a wire that records data to a chip in MP3 format would cause a false negative.  If you can link me to a page with one of those devices I can give you a better opinion on how useful it would be.

I wouldn't trust any crap from a spy store.  I have offered several alternatives at the bottom of this post that will give the user some real capabilities.

What is a wire, anyway?  There are dozens of different devices that can be used to record or transmit audio.

I guess for police purposes though, it is a radio transmitter, because they need to be able to rush in if the informant is in danger.  If I was a cop and I was building such a device I would build it using a regular cell phone to transmit the audio.  That would give the advantage of encryption and the RF profile of a normal cell phone call.  Any detection device that picks that up would alert on any nearby cell phone call.

I doubt the cops do that though.  They buy specialized transmitters and receivers.

Instead of a wire detector from the spy store, there are several devices which will let you know what the nearest RF signal is in the area, and tell you the frequency so you know if its a cell phone or some other thing.  It is very unlikely that police wires use encryption - If it gives a reading around, say, 455 Mhz, you could tune that into a scanner and check to see what kind of audio it is sending.

You could build a small directional antenna to do that.  You would then be able to point it at different people and see who has the transmitter.

It may be possible to use a frequency counter discretely.

You can easily spend $50,000 on a nice spectrum analyzer, but I got mine for $200 and it works great.  Modern units look like really complicated oscilloscopes, mine looks more like a radar display from 1968.

If you are serious about knowing if someone is wearing a wire, I strongly recommend this device:

http://www.optoelectronics.com/xplorer.htm

That one will tune in on the nearest FM signal and give you an audio output so you can hear what is going on.  You could wear it like a walkman or with a bluetooth headset, and if you hear your "friends" talking through your earpiece as they approach you, make a quick excuse and run like the wind.  I believe that unit would be highly effective against police wires.

For people with serious safety needs who can spend $1500 and understand RF, this one will give you spectrum analyzer capabilities:

http://www.optoelectronics.com/xsweeper.htm

If that is out of your price range you can get away with using this model, which will tell you about the presence of a nearby radio signal and tell you the frequency, but will not decode it for you:

http://www.optoelectronics.com/cub.htm

Or this one:

http://www.optoelectronics.com/digitalscout.htm

A lower priced but still extremely effective tool would be:

http://www.optoelectronics.com/r506.htm

That one will tell you if there is a transmitter but won't tell you anything about the frequency or let you listen.  Still, it will be enough to let you know that someone is transmitting and it would be easy to use for someone who is not a RF engineer.

All of these tools are also very good for detecting bugs in a home or car.

this is true, for the most part...but you can NEVER fully trust somebody, a close friend of many many years did me dirty, and we went thru alot of stuff together..it's too bad the things people will do when johnny law is in there face.

I blame it all on 19 years of hacking, several years as a ham radio operator, no formal education and some great friends who teach me new things every time I see them.

This will help you out if the cops you're dealing with are using old technology and methods.  The modern approach is for them to get a warrant to tap YOUR cellphone and turn on the microphone while it's in your pocket.  It won't look like it's doing anything.  Turning the phone off won't help either, you'd have to remove the battery.

Cellphones are now ubiquitous and draw much less suspicion than a 1980's style wire.

Most cell phones do not have that functionality, and even if they did the microphone is not usually good enough to make a good recording.

pass him a weed joint,
if he is turning white and greenish in his face you know he is
a cop since they think weed is from the devil.
If you also smell something nasty he just shitted his pants as scared as he is for the''devil''.

Then you know he is a cop

That does not work.  Plenty of cops smoke weed.  Almost everyone who gets busted and becomes an informant has extensive experience with weed.

This also is a shit way of rooting someone out, because some people don't smoke weed - like me. I can enjoy the hell out alot of drugs, but I hate being stoned on weed. I especially would not be getting all stoned around people all extra sketchy about me, my fucking head would probably explode from paranoia.

However, if someone whipped out a line of cocaine to test if I was legit, that would be some awesome shit
